I Cussed Out Amazon

Larger cities have definitely transitioned over to dedicated Amazon delivery vans.

In general, I think it works even better than fedex/ups/usps

I guess the catch is that they must drop it off at the door, they can't access secure mailboxes.

I have no idea. An in-law had a rather extensive installation of it in the Bay Area, and when I mentioned that I thought it was odd over lunch at work one day, I heard that it was popular due to many NoCal suburban lawn requirements and the conflict with saving water during the drought. I agree, probably not so odd, but runs counter to my logic anyway.
Having lived in various parts of California it makes sense to me, particularly for socal since they don't have any water of their own to speak of. Having worked on my own yard for several hours yesterday, and seeing all the weeds taking over parts of it, it appeals even more! :)

My experience w/Amazon has been very positive. My very first order got stolen. Notified Amazon and offered to send them a copy of the police report. They replaced the entire order right away and shipped it to me very quickly. However, it did require a signature IIRC. Have been a fan ever since. Just do not order from there very often. Never seen an Amazon van either. I sure wouldn't hesitate to order from them again should I decide to do so.

Cheers,

Phil

IMO, no thirsty grasses or plants should be used in landscaping in any desert climate. The demand has exceeded the supply from the rivers that supply the water for a long time.

Same here Phil. Amazon has always taken great care of me whenever I’ve had an issue, and the best thing is I’ve rarely had any issues! Something I dislike is that amazon is feeling like eBay these days in that there’s a LOT of junk on there and you have to sort through it all to know if your buying quality or junk. User reviews used to be helpful once you learned how to identify a reviewer as competent or not, but now with incentives and stuff for reviews I just don’t know...

Let alone cities in the desert in the first place. Landscaping is one thing, then there's the swimming pools....

Yeah, I agree 100%. My 1st order was just some paper back books. Nothing real expensive, but I did spend a bit over $100 IIRC. Was taken back that they replaced the order w/o a police report and shipped over night. I even called them back to thank them. Shipping over night/next day was not really needed. I was just happy that they agreed to replace the entire order. I would not hesitate to order from them again. :)

Native species is the only approach that makes any sense!

In my area, I also need deer resistant native species!

I order from Amazon, A LOT! In general (depending on price), Amazon is my preferred vendor.

2 day and in some cases 1 day delivery as a prime member. It is often much quicker and easier to place an order than go peruse a store.

And, I now have an Amazon-branded credit card that gives me 5% back for any Amazon purchase. Other purchases have 3%, 2%, or 1% back.

I have had very few problems with Amazon, and most tend to be around the holidays when the drivers are over worked, or the temp staff just doesn't care. And, in every case, Amazon was very quick to get problems corrected and keep a happy customer.

I have posted about the Bluetooth receiver I found that I needed for an installation- I found it online at 11:30AM, ordered it and it delivered at 7:30PM, same day. It was installed and working by 9:30hte next morning.

Some friends are in the process of selling a house in PHX, with a pool. I haven't heard them complain about the cost to keep it filled and if it was outlandish, they definitely are the type who would have complained. Maybe it's the fact that it has the ground to help with cooling it.

Phoenix is one of the cities that shouldn't exist that I had in mind :) It's not the cost in dollars that counts when it comes to the water....

Tell 'lord helmet' Van Dyke and Glen Campbell- they owned most of the available land in the area in the '60s, from what I heard. OK, the site edited his first name- it's the one who had the TV show with Mary Tyler Moore.

I have to admit- I like a lot of the Phoenix area and have a lot of friends out there. When I go there, I always notice that it's a lot cleaner than Milwaukee and the roads are in much better condition.

WRT the water supply- have you seen how far the water level has dropped at Lake Powell and Lake Mead?

LOL Lord helmet Van Dyke almost sounds like he's royalty :) It's relatively new so we'll see how long that lasts. There's some rough stuff there, too, tho. It wouldn't surprise me the levels are way down in the reservoirs....they've just about killed the Colorado now.
