I know I'm gonna come across as one of those "right wing nut jobs" (I am from Florida), but when the power goes off for few days humans turn to their true animal nature. Also, major storms have the ability to bring out all the thieves and swindlers.

DON'T TRUST ANYBODY

Protect yourself and property.
That's what's so civilized about the south...you guys wait for the power to go out, or a disaster to demo the lowest common denominator.:D:D
In the NYC or N.East NJ area...not so much. Sorry, but it's sad & true.

Sounds like you've been really busy prepping for Irene. It hope it passes further east of Cape May.

Thanks for all the photos - it beats weather.com. But I'm waiting for the photo of a wind-ripped and soaking wet sawz reporting from the beach, even if its dark by the time Irene gets to you :D.

I just noticed those two octagonal pieces of flake board covering what must be octagonal windows. Cutting those would have taken me all afternoon :D.

Most likely Cape May is going to get a pretty good smack late tonight and through Sunday morning. Hopefully it'll be the west side of the storm (the good side).

Sawz, since you don't have lumber on those windows you'll need to stay in an interior room. I'd also think about hanging some heavy blankets or comforters on the inside of the windows. The tape is really just a "feel good" thing. It's not the wind you have to worry about, it's the things flying around in the wind. Little pebbles and branches flying at +75 mph can do wonders. Tape just holds the glass shards together a little longer while they fly through the room. The blanket will catch the debris and maybe give you enough time to cover the hole before the room gets flooded.

Oh, and that guy who didn't cover the top window in that home made a mistake if the storm gets bad. The higher up you go the stronger the winds. I'm sure you've seen how the two story homes didn't fair so well in past stomr when compared to their one story neighbors.

Home Depot was all out of duct tape.
Just wait till after the storm. There'll be riots over roofing cement and tarps. Your local Home Depot and Lowes will become a battle zone.

I sure hope not. It's sad (and ironic) that we live in a society that relies upon cooperation to exist, but that a lot of us resort to selfish every-person-for-themselves behaviors whenever there's the slightest disturbance to normal everyday life. Bad times are when we need to help one another. We're a lot stronger together than we are alone.

That said, you better get your dirty hands off of my water bottle. :p :D

FYI, Tape does nothing to help. Plywood is the best way to go.....
