In that case, the price is justified. Sometimes people have a need for good shielded power cords, and top-flight build quality never hurt anyone.

I have finazlized all three of my main systems. I am waiting on a few pieces to arrive, but here's the final approximate tally for the core pieces:

Headphone Rig - $15,000 (Singlepower SDS XLR, Meridian G08, Sennheiser HD650 w/ Equinox, Billy Bag's Pro Stand)

2 Channel Rig - $45,000 (TACT RCS 2.2.XP, BOZ 216/2200, Epiphany 12-12, Tact W210 Corner Subs, Classe Omega SACD2, Audiophile APS 1050, Biily Bag's Tri-pro)

HT Rig - $93,000 (Tact TCS MKII/ADC6, BOZ 216/2200, Eggelston Andra II, Velodyne DD-15s, Denon 5910, Esoter X-01, Pioneer Pro 1130HD).

It took me over a year of buying and selling pieces to figure out what I really wanted, but I finally have my 3 main systems on the verge of completion.... and now almost everything has to be put into storage so I can start home renovations :D

Very impressive. Nice to see someone else who shares a passion for the higher end of the market.

Any chance you could post some links to your equipment (manufacturers website) and maybe some photos? I'm particulary interested in your big rig.

Nice choice of CD transport for your headphone rig. Did you compare to the 808?

Cheers,

Chris

You can check the link Jaxvon provided to see some of the gear, however many of those pictures are already outdated. Just within the past 2 weeks, I made the decision to go with the Andra IIs and Meitner. I should have final gear pictures up within a few weeks and final setup pictures after renovations (6 months).

I don't really have a passion for high end gear as much as I do for creating the best possible listening experience. The TACT gear (and its incredible room correction) and the speakers I use are definitely the most critical components. I do have a penchant for high end sources, but feel they are more a luxury than an absolute necessity.

The G08 is stellar. My favorite redbook source. I had the 808 for a month. It is also amazing, but I decided to go with the Classe SACD2 instead b/c of its SACD ability. I ordered the Meitner b/c I do quite a bit of multichannel SACD listening.

Great choice of products on your part. I really like Meridian products. I also used a G57 until recently.

In the audio hobby since 1968.

This is my system, generally purchased at less than retail prices. The main speakers (a Henry Kloss design) and subwoofers in this system are about 20 years old and still work fine. These were bought at the dawn of Pro-Logic and the introduction of the first Bose cubes for you audio historians. These speakers were originally in a much smaller room and do not produce enough bass for my present great room and open floor layout of about 8,000 cu ft. I plan to get a SVS PB12+2 next, which is why I bought the BFD while it was still around. I put a lot of time into figuring that thing out with help from an internet guide. It made the present RS subwoofer sound better as a stopgap. I have to keep the volume low most of the time so I am putting off buying a new subwoofer for awhile since I won’t be able to use it much right now. I have used my son’s PS3 to watch a couple of blu-ray movies, but I don’t plan to buy a high definition DVD player until the format war is over and player prices drop to about $150, the price I paid for the upscaling DVD player. I will probably upgrade my satellite equipment next to a HD DVR depending on how the HD programming packages look.

I was initially aiming for 5k. It ended up being just under 7. I was hoping to stay in my budget, but am still content since I'm very happy with the equipment I purchased.

My main system would be my 2.0, that new was about $15,000. My HT is about $5,000. and change. How about software? My CD collection about $6000.00, my DVD collection about $2500.00

Two difficulties here. First is deciding which is my "main" system. I have two systems, one for music and one for movies. For the poll, I arbitrarily decided to designate the music system as "main".
Second is how to define "worth". Is it MSRP, what I actually paid, or what I would expect to be able to sell it for? I went with what I actually paid, but this is misleading since I got an $800 amp for free.

Canton Karat Fronts---$2000
Escient Fireball
Music Server. --------$950
Cords and Wires.-----$700
Grand Total--------$9100

There was a learning curve to this process. I am an impulse buyer and that can be troublesome. I also don't make a lot of money......or work a lot of hours. So I kissed some frogs in the used buying department. Also, I would not pay $1200 for a 5 channel amp again, although it is a nice one. Best value is the Canton Karat speaks for $2k delivered. Best used value was the Acurus amps-they're hot. Coolest thing is the music server- it's like having an audiphile ipod -your whole music collection at your fingertips. The only regret I have is not getting the Audio ReQuest server which does lossless. I had $1k down at a b and m store last winter and just could not come up with another thousand for the ReQuest server. :( but they gave me the Fireball for a good price and it works just fine at 320kbps. Thanks for listening.

My main system would be my audio system which is worth somewhere around $5,500 depending where you buy it from.

I'm assuming the question was how much they're worth new, not second hand.

Chock up another one for $10,000+ (with various accessories and games, etc). My purchase price is far below the retail value due to the employee discount i had when purchacing everything. As for the replacement value, I'm saying i'm still in the $8,000 - 10,000 range as the prices are the same, just updated models for the current year.

I will do my list in new retail value at time of purchase, replacement cost with current model, and what i actually paid for it. Prices are pretty rounded and I did not go looking for the best deals etc. so take it with a grain of salt!

Model New Replace I Paid
Hitachi 50VF820 $2,600 $1,300 $1,600
Onkyo TXSR-702 $800 $800 $550
PS3 $400 $400 $400

Polk CSi5 $500 $500 $200
Polk RTi6 side $480 $480 $190
Polk RTi6 rear $480 $480 $190
Polk XRt12 $330 $330 $130
Velodyne DPS12 $550 $550 $120

3 pair Monster 800 component cables 300.00 retail paid 30.00 CC closeout

So if I paid retail for everything it would come to 19,841 (not including tax)

But I paid 5,700 total maybe 300 more with the tax for the few items I had to pay tax on. so 6 grand for 20,000 worth of gear just for my main system.

I actaully saved money on master bedroom setup also which retails for about 12,000 I paid about 3,000 total for that system. Which has alot of the same gear.
