How exactly does going to church cost money? Do you refer to the collection? The collection, amongst other things, is simply a donation, not a compulsory payment, to help with the upkeep of the building the church worships in.

Commandment six; Thou shalt not murder. I sure hope this is not simply a guideline.

Why does it frustrate you? Relying on something that cannot be proven is the definition of belief. Besides, for those with faith, there is no 'might' to consider. ;)

1. In some churches tithing is mandatory or you cannot belong.
2. Has your country been in any wars?
3. Relying on something that cannot be proven is the definition of 'faith'.

Answers to:

1. Then they are at fault.

2. Why do you ask questions to which you already know the answer? That aside, you have me totally baffled by your comment. Can you elaborate please?

3. Hmm. True. Thanks for the correction school master :) , however, the two words can be used in the same context. ;)

1a. Merely correcting your 'belief'. :)
2a. You said..."Commandment six; Thou shalt not murder. I sure hope this is not simply a guideline." See, it IS a guideline. In our world it seems okay to murder under some conditions.
3a. We aim to please, Buckle. Precision is a good thing, yes Grasshopper? ;)

Upkeep of the church? Well lets see. My church for example that i go to twice ayear. The pastor that they got recieved the cost of moving,a new house, private school for his kids and 75,000 ayear. Thats a ton of collections. Now i also got a letter in the mail that last month was going to be a big push to collect enough money to pay off the 15 homes{houses} they use{err own}. I also have a problem with church collection. I understand they need to but not every single thing you go to. I also agree that its fine to go to church but not needed to go to a better place if indeed that place is up there. I figure to keep trying to do the best i can and if indeed there is a god,he knows whats in my heart. Now my wife says, are you willing to take a chance you are wrong. Guess so because i'm her #1 prayer. LOL

There's a fine line in the distinction between the two I know, but I would tend to say that in wars, people kill rather than murder each other.

Yeah, last night I mauled a rat snake to death with a hammer for biting my toe.

I was sitting on this very computer surfing for....um....biological studies...yeah that's it...

....well up and suddenly something jsut nails my middle toe on my right foot...I jump up shrieking like a little girl...and I see this yellow tail sliding off into the corner of the room.

STOP! HAMMER TIME! I had a hammer on my desk (I'm weird, don't ask)...well I learned that it's hard to off a snake quickly with a hammer...especially since I wanted the head unscathed in case I got sick or anything. Basically something for the doctors to ID it off of.

/sigh....bugs are one thing but thinks that suddenly attack me....oh man did I lose it....

To say you believe in nothing takes more faith than saying you believe in something. God isreal. I know because I have a personal relationship with a living God, not a dead one. Heaven and Hell are real places. The earth is proof enough that God is real. It also takes alot more faith to say the the world and especially people came from some primordial soup and a big bang than from a Creator. The Bible says that at some point every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. Like the commercial says; You can pay (confess) me now or pay (confess) me later. The choice is yours.
Anyone here that would like a book that would hopefully help you see that God is real feel free to PM me with their address and I'll send you a book to read. Free. No collection or payment required, not even for the postage.
Some churches do require you to give. I believe they are in error. God does require you to give, but the church should not. The church should encourage you to do what God says in his word, but not force you to. If you love Him you will do His will, including tithing. Many churches and/or the people that are over them do misuse the money donated to them. This is unfortunate. It is the duty of the members, however, to hold them accountable for how they spend God's money. If the church continues to abuse the money after you have confronted them, then I would prayerfully consider going to another church where you feel comfortable knowing they are careful with not only the money, but how they conduct themselves in all matters.
Hypocrites. Their are some in every church I have been a part of. If you let them come between you and God then they are closer to God than you are! All kidding aside, you shoud develop role models for your life, including your walk with Christ, but keep the ultimate role model as Christ himself as he is blameless, spotless and holy.
Am I trying to save everyone on this site? No. Neither I nor anyone else can rescue you from the pit of Hell, only Jesus himself. It is, however, my obligation to tell you about Him. Their is no other way to heaven other than through Him.
As far as overzealous religious folks, well, even Jesus did not particularly like them, either. He called a group of Pharasees a "brood of vipers". Not too nice for the supposed religous elite of his day. He does indeed know your heart as mentioned earlier. The Pharasees had become so involed in following the law to the letter that they forgot a very important thing: people.
I agree with others that have posted here about having feet to your words or prayers. You cannot work your way into heaven, nor should you only pray for someone when you have the means to do something personally for them. Don't just pray for the victims of hurricane Katrina when you can either give money, food, etc, or even go down to the Gulf coast and help out in any way you can. Pray, for sure, but DO something as well. The same with your neighbor or fellow workmates.
This is posted to enlighten rather than enrage, although Jesus by nature will cause some to become angry. Sin and holiness are obviously opposites. While opposites sometimes attract, their will always also be friction.

PS If I receive red chicklets for this, thanks!!! I count it joy to suffer for the cause of Christ! Red or green, I can't loose! Whoo-hoo!

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth

Thanks for the kind word Buckle-miester and Mulester. While everyone may not choose to accept Christ, he died for everyone just the same. On a site that has "Pursuing the Truth" in it's title, I feel like I can only speak the truth about Christ.
Best wishes to all.
To anyone helping out with the hurricane victims, see you at the Gulf week after next.

The Catholic Church has made it very clear that they do not condone the killing of men & women under any circumstance. Soldiers who kill "for their country" are not exceptions from the rule and damned to an eternity in Hell 'lest they repent and confess their sin.

If you're a protestant I guess its Ok, they don't have a governing body to verify these things........

So I guess if we were all Catholics in the 1940's (other than the Germans) we would all be either dead or under Hitler's rule.

Jebus Saves!!!!

Riddle me this. Is it even slightly possible that that people could use religion to explain things before science could. In greek mythology people thought the sun was a flaming chariot being pulled across the sky. If you believe that we are all doomed.

Perhaps a king ws having trouble keeping his surfs in line. At a point when his knights were spread to thin. He cooked up the all seeing all knowing GOD to put the smack down. The king is choosen by GOD and the king just wants you to do gods work.

People would not lie to control someone else right?

Some people willing to go under the ether of religion for false hope. They work in a sweatshop for 2 cents an hour until they die. But its all worth it because Jebus is going to take them to heaven. Maybe death is heaven at that point. Maybe its just a coincidence that Benny Hinn can sell out multi 100,000 seat stadiums in third world countries. He sells hope to the hopeless.

If you believe in god do you also believe in Santa Claus, Eater Bunny, Tooth Fairy? Why Not!?!?!?!

I don't believe. It's the only logical conclusion.

I'm sure this post will be ignored. My post count is to low!
