Hope you live long enough to collect......assuming the rules don't get changed in the meantime. Sure glad that part of my life is over (kids in school stuff) and now my daughter gets to have all the fun with her kids and the bureaucratic public education system......and I get to smile :D

The beatings might be good for them, but I draw the line at the sexual abuse.
No problem, I'll just have all girls. :p

PS. Isn't it strange that the "punishment is bad" school of thought, dominant for the last 30 years, seems to have all-of-a-sudden been replaced, seemingly overnight witht the "spanking works" system.

Or maybe I'm wrong and only know families of child-abusers.

This discussion reminds me of a great line from comedian Jeff Foxworthy.

He said: You can't even spank your kids anymore. Now you have to give them a 'time-out'. When I was a kid, my dad would take 'time-out' of his busy day to whip our azz!

edit: forum doesn't like the three letter word for butt.

The people you know do not seem to be representative of all people.

Also, there are ways of disciplining children without beating them, though the parents must be involved in this; schools are not substitutes for good parents.

Schools should be able to expel troublesome students, though that is not something that most people seem to accept, so it is not currently much of an option.

Obviously, I do not know the details of your situation, but sometimes it is possible to be vested in a retirement plan that cannot be collected until one is of a certain age (such as 65). In such cases, one can quit one's current job and look for another one in the meantime (usually it is best to do this in the opposite order, as getting a job tends to be easier when one already has one). One can possibly also become vested in a second retirement, and then collect both. Of course, usually both retirements do not add up to more than one retirement from a company for which one has worked for the total time.

If you are stuck, you may wish to do a little research on whether or not you can sue for a hostile work environment. You might want to start with a search online if you are not flush with money for a lawyer. If you take this approach, usually it is useful to keep an exact account of what happened and when it happened, with lists of witnesses and such. (Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, so you should not construe this as legal advice; for legal advice, you should speak with a local attorney whose expertise is in the relevant field.)

You might also discuss the matter with trusted coworkers to see if they have any useful suggestions for dealing with your situation.

Also, instead of cussing at the student who removed the stem caps from your tires, you could call the police. Theft and vandalism are crimes, and a visit from the police might do him some good. (On the other hand, it could also make the kid angrier with you, and wish for vengeance. Use your own judgment regarding the best approach.)

You may wish to check into mulester7's suggestion of transferring to another school in your district. They may not all be equally bad.

I'm sorry I don't have any better suggestions than the above.

Sue? They have an endless amount of taxpayer money and i have none so that wont work. We are not union and i've been here to long to know they can do what they want, they do and have and will. Call the police? Guess you havent been to North Long Beach, that wont work either. Cant transfer, they have grandfathered me so it would be less pay. I just have to put up with it for 8 more years and at 52, not alot of other jobs out there and this retirement is for two as my wife is self-employed and no retirement but for an Ira.

Offensive? I'm Catholic and I thought it was hilarious! If anybody should feel hurt are those poor souls who are forced to send their kids in a public edu. system! :D

I went to school in a catholic school system and my high school was run by Nuns! At the time (as a teenager) I thought I had it bad, but now I am grateful. I was one of those "spirited youths" and I came out with an education (Great! I learned one thing: the government is screwing me over with taxes!)

Discipline and structure are needed in an education system, it only takes one unruly kid to disrupt the whole class!

Discipline and corporal violence are often confused as one and the same! I never got hit by Nuns at my school yet they operated the high school with respect and authority! (if not fear) :D

Shokhead, do yourself a favour, take a deep breath, look at your options, discuss your options with your spouse and make a change. Oppressive work environments will take more toll on your mental health. Can anyone say the word "Postal"? 8yrs is a long time....

Think about it.

Think about it some more.

One last thing, really really think about it.

It can always get better. Wed the Principal and a teacher told me to move boxes of books to the teachers room. I said i'd do it in the morning. A few hours latter the teacher said to wait that she might want them someplace else and she would let me know. Yesterday the Principal asked if i had moved them yet and i told her what the teacher had said. She said, when i tell you to do something,i want it done yesterday so now i want it done now. I'm on lunch,i'll get it as soon as i'm done. You'll do it now and finish your lunch latter. So i'm moving the books and the Prin comes over and said, who do you want mad at you,me or her. I said neither and she said wrong answer, you never want me. I think this will be the Prin last year as its about time for her to move on. Its only been like this with this one. For 13 years i had 2 great Prin that were not like this at all.

This is America, no? You do not have the right to NOT be offended.

Some things Catholics do or say offend me. I don't try to stop them.

How can you hate anyone that can turn 5 really bad pop songs into one catchy polka diddy on every album? :)

PS: If you paid attention, "Weird" Al was the only performer with a 'Behind The Music' episode that was all good. Nothing bad ever happens to the guy. Except UHF, you know he got alot of sh!t when that failed to make money (which is strange, the humor holds up quite well).

I personally don't believe in religions. I don't understand why it should cost money to go to a church. People choose to follow god, thats great, but they should not have to pay for it. First off, theres no proof "god" is real. Some people like it for faith, and thats fine. I just don't believe. And, even though jahovans(typo, big time) Witnesses come to your door, they are really nice poeple when they are not. One of my best friends is a Jdub (thats what he calls it) and hes family is really nice, they came over for dinner and Visit all the time. I don't like the religious kooks that think everything will send you to hell. The 10 comandments and the bible are a guide line, not laws.

I'm with you Sheep. I live my life and try to be a good person, and always try to respect other people and their beliefs (religiously and otherwise) , whether I believe them or not. How can this be wrong? I also volunteer to help people a lot. I am a man of action. You can have a room full of people sitting around praying and there's nothing wrong with that. However, I will be one of those out there directly assisting with an issue and actually getting something done about it. I too, will not pay to go to a church. I would gladly donate money from time to time, but not just give x% of my salary. To me, that's like being required to tip 15% by some restaurants, regardless of the service. I feel today's churches are like everyone else in society, trying to keep up with the Jones'. I find little beauty in a modern church. I prefer the old rock chuch two guys threw together a hundred years ago and was paid for from day one to the high-tech compound-like facilities of today people will be paying for throughout their lifetimes.

How exactly does going to church cost money? Do you refer to the collection? The collection, amongst other things, is simply a donation, not a compulsory payment, to help with the upkeep of the building the church worships in.

Commandment six; Thou shalt not murder. I sure hope this is not simply a guideline.

Why does it frustrate you? Relying on something that cannot be proven is the definition of belief. Besides, for those with faith, there is no 'might' to consider. ;)
