Box sets! That's actually good news. I mean, I was gonna buy 'em all anyway, and usually, box sets come out to cheaper per disc than buying them individually. Awesome. I can't wait. I've been obssessing about Genesis ever since watching that webcast. I'm chomping at the bit for those surround mixes and to see them live!

cheers,
supervij

EDIT: By the way, didn't Paula replace Joy Askew? When I saw Pete in Toronto for the Secret World Live tour, Joy was doing backing vocals and keyboards. I think Paula joined up shortly after that.

TEll me about it. In the past 3 days, I watched every Peter Gabriel era Genesis video on youtube.com and also listened to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway double CD. I haven't listened to this CD in nearly 6 years!

I think Paula only toured a few shows with him and after that her solo career took off. Working with Peter really jumpstarted her career IMO.

Exactly!! Keeping them boxed should certainly make for a more attractive price point! I am going to snap 'em up either way as well!
I've been obssessing about them for 15 years since the last time I had seen them... I have no life! :)

Mike

EDIT: I have just learned that the 5.1's will come out as individual albums, as well as boxed sets. The boxed sets will include the bonus disc!

gene, did you watch that Mama dark funky remix on YouTube? It's kinda funny to hear/watch it sped up a wee bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHhUfi_igNo

I just heard that while Europe is definitely getting the SACDs, it's undecided whether or not North America will get them. Right now, it looks like we're going to get a DVD-V & CD combo. And this comes straight from Nick Davis. This sucks! Now I suppose I'll have to shell out extra cashola to order the SACDs from Europe! (Thank Rael SACDs are worldwide compatible!)

But I keep telling myself, "It's undecided . . . it's undecided . . . they'll do the right thing . . . oh mama, can't you feel my heart?"

cheers,

Guys;

I have a phone interview scheduled with Steve Hackett for Dec 5th! If you have any questions you would like me to ask him, fire them off here or to me via a PM.

Gene, you are a lucky man! Steve is one of the nicest people one could ever meet. I hope you enjoy the interview, and I'm looking forward to the write-up!

In other news, Supervij I read the same thing (saw your post in the N.D. section at G forum). I hope they do SACD in the states... I will import if I have to. To bad the marketing is so F'd up here that I'm sure record company's are reluctent to use certain audiophile formats. I guess DVD (DTS ) and a CD are a safe bet in the US. Though since the SACD's are to be hybrid, I think the SACD/DVD combo is the ultimate in versatility!

We'll see.. I'm dying to here them! :)

Hi all,

I just found this forum while searching for something else. Saw the thread about a Genesis reunion and just had to read on. I noticed that the first thread was over a year ago and here it is a year later after there was talk of a reunion and still no U.S. dates. AARGH. Still, I have to thank all of you for the info and video links. That's one concert I'd love to see. I only caught them in concert once at Dodger Stadim in the early 90s for the We Can't Dance tour. I'm bummed that Hacket won't be joining them on this tour. I'd rather see him on the tour than PG, although both would be primo. I caught Hacket in the early 90's at a small club in So Cal. When he played Horizon the crowd went wild.

Show of hands...who is scratching their heads trying to figure out how to get the funds to go to Italy for the free concert in Rome?

Thanks again for all the updates.

Lynn.. my hand is up! I thought it would more then interesting to be amongst 300k to 500k or more people to see them. That's just an unreal crowd size.

The US dates are going to happen. I suspect the announements early in '07!

Steve just sent me a bunch of his CD's to demo. I started with the Genesis Revisited one. Overall its decent but I hate to say he really kills the songs where he tries to sing in them, especially with the evil sounding voice. I really wish he would stick to what he is best at - playing guitar.

As usual, I am underwhelmed with Bill Brufords performances. He just isn't the drummer he was 15 years ago. Chester did a great job and it was cool hearing John Wetton sing some of the old Genesis songs.

If you guys wanna flip out, check out these 11-15 year olds doing a classic UK song - In the Dead of Night. Give these guys 10 years and you are likely looking at the next super group of progressive rock!

Play track #4 , the drummer is only 11 years old!

Ok sorry I derailed the thread ;)

Thread officially derailed. I only own Hackett's Spectral Mornings, very good IMO. The recording quality is mediocre, though. See if you can spot where the tambourine misses the beat around the middle of the first song "Everyday" but overall it has great music, especially the 2nd track.
I'm not gonna comment on BB's work. Ask Hackett about him, also, when he's coming to Chicago with his band.

I checked the kids out. They rock! Definitely worth keeping an eye on their career. I'm a bit surprised that they all like James LaBrie so much, I really don't like the guy's voice.

You don't suppose they'll follow the DVD route, do you? I mean, the thing where they release stuff individually, then once everything has been released, they release a box set that covers everything plus more. I mean, what if they release a super-box set in mid- to late-2008 that encompasses the whole Genesis catalog (excepting From Genesis to Revelation, of course) that will have a bonus disc or two that wasn't in the smaller box sets? I remember they did this with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I was none too happy about that!

cheers,

I am not sure but I thought I read that they will be available individually, and as a boxed set. Can't remember clearly though.
Just read your post vij on Nick Davis section of the forum, so looks like no 'super' boxed sets, or the 'MAMA' of all sets - that was good!

Interesting note, they have darn near sold out 10 shows already in less then a few weeks in Europe! Amazing imo because they haven't so much as made a peep in 15 years, and also the shows are still 6 months away!

Yeah, as soon as I finished posting here, it occurred to me to simply ask Nick. He of all people would probably know. And I'm glad to hear that the answer is no -- there will be no mama of all sets! Yay for us!

I'm still waiting to hear about the North American selection of shows . . . the anticipation is killing me!

cheers,

I must admit I have not followed Genesis. It is not that I don't like the music, I just have not heard much of it. I might enjoy them very much if I listened to them.
I can't help but notice the timing of this interveiw coinciding with the release of the extremely expensive SACD/DVDs from Genesis. It makes me doubt the objectivity of Audioholics.
Can anyone explain the high cost ($40 each) of these releases?

You're obviously a newbie and NOT familiar with this site to make such a moronic statement.

Could it be I interviewed Steve Hackett because I am:
  • a huge Genesis fan
  • had the opportunity
  • consider it 1 step closer to interviewing the current band before they tour over the summer
