I'm pretty certain they will make it to your neck of the woods Supervij!
Also, tickets are already said to be going on sale in some countries 3 days after the announcement. I think they are going to put on a really special show.

A couple of things I think they will detail on Nov. 7.

-Release of 5.1 albums, which are now possibly going to be a 2 disc set (SACD and DVD (DTS/DD5.1))
-Tour announcement of course
-possible new material
-Live archive releases from board tapes

And hopefully more!

Don't tease me

I am pretty confident new material will be announced. I'd love to hear a 5.1 version of Duke, 3 Sides Live, Wind and Wuthering, And Then There Were Three.

I don't think they will get into the PG era stuff much personally. Collins always seemed ashamed of that era. I hope they do include Daryl and Chester in the tours. I wish they would at least put Daryl on the album so he can do solos since Rutherford is really NOT a guitarist. At this point, I don't see Hackett touring with them as he would have to learn a ton of new material. Here is keeping my fingers crossed!

Lol, okay the board tapes are a stretch (they were talking about them a couple of years ago). But the 5.1's are for certain, and soon. The tour is for certain, and soon too.
From 2nd hand info, I have heard from Chester Thompsons forum that the live lineup will be the same 5 that have been doing in since '78. CT, DS, MR, TB, and PC.
There is no doubt in my mind that's what it will be.

More later as I find out!

IMO it wouldn't be Genesis without them. If Chester and Daryl weren't there, or replaced by Peter and Steve, I wouldn't even bother to see them.

This discussion inspired me to pop in Wind and Wuthering. One for the Vine IMO is an underrated Genesis classic. I love playing Tony's keyboard solo on my keyboard while listening along. Its so cool to get back into this music even though its nearly 30 years old!

I can play a little on the keyboard and piano but not much good anymore. Speaking of underated, Tony is certainly! The guy is a brilliant musician and writer.
Yeah W&W great album! Tough to pick a fav from it.
I have Trick of a Tail and Duke in my car's changer now. Good stuff and I haven't listened to them in some time. I am wishing that they will open there upcoming shows with Behind the Lines... I think it would be a kickass opener!

My dang brother borrowed Duke and Abacab and I haven't seen those CD's in nearly 6 months :(

Yes Behind the Lines would be a great opener. I hope they do "The Cage" as its been years since they performed it live. Give me the full version of Firth or Fifth please, no 5 min melody compilation....

Oh wow! How did I miss that news! A Genesis reunion, really?

I'll always remember the first time my friend made me listen Down and Out from And Then They Were Three, I was blown away. That album, Selling England and Foxtrot are my favorites!

Any update on when that might happen?

Supper's ready?

I'm with you! The cage thing with In that quiet earth/Afterglow ooohhh.. Firth yes sir! And I'm hoping for a full Cinema show! And I hope they close it with the closer of all closers, Los Endos! (If anyone has seen the Live at Wembley DVD and watched Los Endos, you know exactly what I'm talking about!).

Gene, you better get after your bro for the CD's! If not run to the store! :) Speaking of which, my Best Buy who famously would have maybe a total of 2 albums of Genesis, now has about 20 of each from there entire catalog! Hmm.. you think the record company knows something?!

Wow thats great news! I hope to see a movement towards old progressive rock come back as most of the rock out today is too sterile and unmoving. Hopefully the Genesis comeback is a success and inspires new music from other artists to put more heart in their rock.

I can't imagine that any movement towards prog will happen anytime soon. This is the age of mp3s and "instant music". We get our music one song at a time, and if a song doesn't appeal immediately, it gets deleted. Prog will continue to appeal only to a small group of us, sad to say.

gene, you wouldn't want to see a Genesis concert featuring Peter and Steve? Not me! As much as I love Phil, Chester and Darryl, I'd die to see the original (well, not original, but classic) lineup and hear Watcher of the Skies and The Carpet Crawlers and Harold the Barrel and all those old classics. When I first got into Genesis, I always lamented that I was born a decade or two too late to see them with the classic lineup. This reunion was going to hopefully take care of that regret.

I'd like to hear songs that they haven't played much. The Cage medley was played for the tours for Abacab, The Mama Tour and the Invisible Touch tour. That's enough for that medley, I hope. Carpet Crawlers, Blood on the Rooftops -- the not-oft-played stuff would be cool to hear.

Still salivating at the anticipation of those 5.1 album mixes! Supper's Ready, The Knife, Watcher of the Skies, Firth of Fifth all of The Lamb, all of Wind & Wuthering -- those are gonna kick my *ss!!!

cheers,
supervij

Very true, just wishful thinking

No I said if Peter and Steve weren't in it, then Chest and Daryl must in order for me to attend. I won't go if it's just a trio.

I don't think they could play just as a trio. You need guitars PLUS bass guitar. You need singing PLUS drumming.

On a related note check out Giraffe kicking some serious a$$ in their tribute to Genesis at Progfest 94. Some impressive sound and video clips at YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=CA6FA2F5E807F532

Giraffe was Kevin Gilbert's pre-Toy Matinee band with drummer Nick D'Virgilio (Spock's Beard). Here they do justice to early Genesis. And I'll use this post to URGE you to pick up a copy of Toy Matinee's one and only cd if you haven't already. It's one of my favorite cds in my collection. There's also a surround version.

Update:

From press conference, they will be doing 20 shows in Europe (venue's already announced), and 20 show's in the USA (TBA). Also, SACD 5.1's will be coming out starting next March (Trick thru Abacab), then 2 more batches of albums throughout '07.
No new Material
They will be playing stuff as old as '73 including In the Cage. Los Endos will be played... they mentioned lots of dual drumming and instrumentals. The setlist is still be worked out though.

I think they said 20 shows in Europe next summer, then 20 shows in North America the following summer ('08), is that right?

I liked when Tony said that he wants to re-acquaint people with the fact that Genesis has more than just the hit-pop-song side to them, that they have interesting, complex music too. I'd rather hear that stuff than their pop stuff, which I still like too.

Man, I can't believe I woke up extra early just to watch that webcast!

I can't wait to hear about the cities/dates for the North American "selection of shows" . . . I'm freaking out just thinking about it!

cheers,

Here is the Video Webcast of the interview incase anyone missed it:

http://www.genesislive.tv/#

It's cool that they are doing this more for fun than for the sake of doing it or for the money. It sounds like they are aiming at making a great impression on the music world so that people remember there is more to them than pop music. Its about time!

I was saddened to hear they aren't working on a new CD but at the flipside perhaps this gives them more time to focus on rehearsing.

I understand Tony's comments about it being awkward bringing on Steve Hackett without Peter Gabriel, especially since Darly Streumer has been a more intregal part of the band on touring for the past 20-30 years.

I am surprised they haven't yet annouced US tour dates though

Too bad Peter turned down the chance to do The Lamb Lies Down tour with them.

Personally, I think they noticed all the attention Genesis Tribute bands have been getting which is why they (especially Phil) is getting back in the action.

I am looking forward to 07 for sure!

All great news isn't it!!

I wish I could go to Rome just to get a feel for what it's like to be around a crowd of the 300,000 people they will be playing to for free! WOW!

Can't wait for the US tour dates to be released! ALSO, the official website will be hosting pre-ticket sales for those registered to the forum before tickets go on sale; so the forum members will have access to 4 tickets at whatever venue before they go on sale to the general public!!

progheads complain

There seems to be a general sense of rage in the prog community over this tour. There are claims that the ticket prices are outrageous (I don't really know if this holds true or not), the set list sucks, etc... and especially over the absence of Gabriel and Hackett.
I can't see inside the band members' brains, but it doesn't seem to be a "just for fun" tour if indeed the prices are so high (especially in large venues), and coinciding with yet another re-release of previously remastered existing music (I own many of their "definite remastered collection" cds that don't seem to be very definitive anymore).
Having said all that, I am for one curious to see them, especially if Thompson and Stuermer are part of the tour. Yes, I'd rather see the classic lineup, but that seems to be more and more unlikely to happen. So I hope I can get affordable tickets if and when the tour hits Chicago.
I promise not to boo at "Illegal Alien" and the likes.
Somebody at a prog web page suggested Gabriel and Hackett should recruit Bruford and the other Mr. Banks and form a band called "Revelation", that would be cool too, don't you think?
