That is so weird, especially since he eluded to a reunion tour on Entertainment Tonight. I still have hopes Collins, Rutherford, Banks will get back together and tour with Chester and Daryl :D
"He" being Collins or Gabriel? I make it a point not to watch ET.

I guess it was too good to be true. On the other hand I agree that a post-PG genesis reunion would be good anyway. I'm just so curious of what new music would come out of the whole "classic" line-up thirty years later. I hope PG is just playing mind games with us ;D

Actually, it is unclear when that info that Tina wrote on PG website was acutally published. The general consensus is that it is dated because it is not consistent with some recent Peter Gabriel interviews about possibly reuniting Genesis. Some people seem to feel that Tina may have wrote that to somewhat defuse the situation for a while since PG's forum was busy with reunion rumours.
As of right now nobody except Genesis and there management have the answer to the big reunion question... so as far as I know it can, or won't happen, period. It has been said by some members that if something was to happen it likely wouldn't until 2007, due to prior commitments.
The ET show was Peter Gabriel for the one who asked. Gabriel made such comments to Rolling stone mag as well.

Mike

PS I know that the SACD's aren't to much further away from what I read... also it looks as if live soundboard releases are in the works as well, possibly via the ofiicial Genesis website. Patients!

Well, Virgin was their record company, wasn't it? So I suppose they would know. Then again, I'm not holding my breath.

Wow. I was actually speechless for a few moments after hearing Phil on the audio for that link! Still, while he said that they're all working on times to do a limited tour of The Lamb, the DJ said that Phil said that he wouldn't pack his bags and go on the tour. Contradiction?!

If it's a limited tour, I imagine it would be just in England or just England and a little bit of the UK, which shuts me out in terms of seeing the show live. But Phil did say that they would record/film it, so I'm sure it'd be available on DVD and such -- IF all of this actually happens.

Too early to get excited about all this. (Cos if I start, I won't stop!)

cheers,

Will you guys stop tourchering me  It makes no sense that they would do a limited tour, particularly of the Lamb since it doesn't appeal to their mass audience, just mostly diehard fans. I think this is all still speculative and until I see tour dates, I won't get excited over it. In fact, I will pretend I never heard this clip.

The next person that brings me false hope of a Genesis reunion gets banned for a week :D

Fweu... That was a lot of reading. Nice thread guys. Don't know if this reunion thing will ever happen or not. Here's to hoping.

Shok, I agree with some of what you say. Back in the 70's & early 80's I felt that Genesis was a bit of a "bubblegum band." The kind that were popular on the radio but didn't really ROCK OUT hard with the likes of Zep or Black Sab. But as the years have gone by and I've heard all the old stuff over & over & over I went back and pulled out a few of my old LP's to find something different to hear. The newer bands just don't do it for me. I found that I really like Genesis's music now. Much more than I ever did back when they were hot. I saw them in concert way back then with friends who drug me there kicking & screaming. I wanted to see Rush again dang-it.
Now, it's like finding a new band that still plays the old style music. Sure, some of it is on the pop side. And very little of it ROCKS like Zep. But I have been listening to it a lot lately. And enjoying it.

You're killing me, johndoe. I just can't take much more of this.

But once again, it IS Virgin making the announcement -- or should I say, the pre-announcement, so it IS possible. And once again, I ain't holding my breath.

I'm sorry Supervij, I couldn't keep it a secret once I found the news. It says they'll announce it officially tomorrow, that's actually right now in the U.K.!! I'll believe it when I see it. Actually, I'll believe it when I see the CD in my hands. I wish they put out something as good, fresh and relevant as King Crimson still does.

Rofl. You and me should stay apart then, I have very "strict" musical tastes.

I think I have seen this before and its old news. Note there is no date to this announcement.
I think the one from Virgin.net is old news.. and some believe they have it mixed up with 'The Cars' announcement that was suppose to be in LA.

But wait there's more: From May 13th, 2006, Toronto, Canada paper...

BBC Radio 6 also confirms, but says not until late '07, or '08 cause Gabriel is booked solid till then.

Holy crap! Phil's in town! Cool beans -- I just might check that show out!

Aw, who'm I kidding? I really don't care for most of Phil's solo stuff (fifteen minutes indeed!), and I can't stand mega-musicals anyway.

Anyway, it's great news, and it's current. And they'd be coming to Toronto -- my home town! Yay! But I can wait a year or two -- gives me time to start queuing up for tickets . . .

cheers,

Wot Gorilla?

I will believe the articles and the band when I see booked tour dates. Until then, I will treat this as science fiction ;)

BTW, all this talk about Genesis inspired me pop in my "The Way We Walk" concert VHS Tape. Show me a rock band today that can top the Firth or Fifth instrumentation session. Now if only Steve Hackett was doing the Guitar Solo ;)

FYI; some free mp3s of the good stuff

Even Daryl Steurmer does a great job kind of modernizing Firth of Fifth. But the original by Hackett is unreal.
Gene, (laughing) I still have the VHS too, but I at least upgraded to dvd which has up to 4 camera angles on each song + extra's. The comentary track sucks cause you can hardly hear the guys talk, and in 5.1 it isn't that great as it wasn't mixed real well. 2.0 stereo on this one for me. Now, the Invisible Touch dvd has been mixed real well for 5.1.

I will believe it when shows are booked as well. Its just hard to believe that something wouldn't be stewing when you had Steve Hackett telling radio stations and the press that they will be doing something, and now Phil Collins who is obviously more of a Genesis icon, talking about it to the press.

I have the Invisible Touch DVD and its ok but the song selection is a bit lacking. I also don't like the fact that they sped up the tempo of Ababac. I have a few other VHS tapes where they did In the Cage (I believe its 3 sides live tour) and it was great, but they cut some of the songs off to do interviews.

If anything, I am hoping Genesis does reform, even if I can't see them, just so I can get a decent quality recorded DVD concert of their music. I want one produced like Hell Freezes Over from the Eagles or Pat Metheny Way Up tour. Here's hoping...

Genesis

I love the music from both of the Peter and Phil eras. They each offer something unique. Genesis is my favorite band, and just like any band, they can record a few clunkers. But I'll take those odds considering I get to hear things as beautiful yet powerful and yes, ROCKING such as "Mama", "Dreaming While You Sleep", etc... These are songs you never forget.

Another thing I like about them is (even though Tony Banks can be a bit serious/British) they have never taken themselves too seriously. I find that to be quite the redeeming quality. I find it somewhat strange the many of the same people who dismiss Genesis as crap often seem to like bands with substandard musical skill and/or talent. (See: Greatful Dead, Stones). If I have to hear what a great drummer Charlie Watts is again, I think I'll vomit in projectile fashion.
