I don't agree that socialism is the way forward, though a good dose, but limited, of social democracy would would be healthy.
social democracy = "socialism" in the American vernacular.. it is what it is...

Just between you and me, I've always wondered about the most basic tenets of the new GOP. I have no idea what they stand for anymore other than just hating Dems. They're not FOR much of anything lately, and more just AGAINST everything.

And even the basic ones don't make sense. I demand every personal liberty! You can't tell me what to do Big Govt.! Except for women. And especially thier reproductive rights. THEN Mr Big Govt, you can step in and tell them they have no choice..! LOL. The whole platform anymore is just Oil Gas COAL..!!!

I spent half my life in the Service, so I've voted for Republicans. I'm not one of those haters... But the last 20 plus years...? They just have nothing left but gerrymandering. And Lyndsey friggin Graham, with good old Mitch and hus Trent Lot obstructionist "Don't worry folks, we won't let them do anything..." bullsh1t
imo.. the republicans "platform" is 1) we hate libtards..2) any type of capitalism is better than than socialism in anything (ignoring of course public education, healthare 'medicare', social security *are* socialism and the fact that tax breaks are socialism in "trickle down" form),,,and that's about it.. o wait, i almost forgot..3) we hate anybody that comes here looking for *our* jobs.. ignoring of course those are the maids and lawncare workers the gop needs to hire to keep them beds made and grass cut at their houses

People need to get over the word socialism. It has been hijacked and demonized. I wouldn't call the present day Republican Party conservative or the Democratic Party liberal. The Soviet Union was NOT an example of true socialism anymore than the USA is a good example of democracy. But, if you are pulling the strings of the f#%kers in Washington, you don't want an informed society cutting those strings. What's wrong with the actual people having the power as opposed to a very few who use whores to do their bidding? People need to stop chasing the "American Dream." It's a f#&kin' fantasy and a trap. Too much doesn't seem to be enough anymore and an entire generation of Americans are content to double down on their "lifestyle" even if it costs their kids and grand kids their futures. "F#%k em', I got mine!" Chill the f#%k out America! Nobody wants to rein in f#%kin' greed, just social democracy. Hasn't really improved matters, has it? Honestly, this s#%t got out of control because white people after WWII didn't want to live in the cities with all of the dirty immigrants that came in after the war so they moved to the suburbs like the f#%kin' Ricardos. Then, they got pissed off when the colored kids started going to their kid's school and sent their own off to private school and the dismantling of the public school system started because they didn't want those kids on equal footing. Years on, these people bitch about the state of society and act like they had nothing to do with it. You can't very well set people up for failure and then complain when they actually do. Most of the f#&kers going on about the state of the country and world are the ones who can afford to do so and aren't worried about losing their home or wonder if the groceries and gas will last til' payday. Empires start falling apart from within first because at some point every slave class gets fed up with the bulls#%t and has had enough. You wanna see your retirement and S.S. last til' the end of your days, you better start giving a s#%t about the hard working people who make your "lifestyle" possible. A regulator is not a bad thing. Every new car on the road has one kind or another so idiots don't go off a f#%kin' cliff. Yikes, where is my f#%kin' coffee cup!?

You see the other problem here, as you noted so deftly. We already live in and accept a basic "socialized" Democratic Republic. People are just too intrenched and ignorant to realize it..! Let's list some of those Socialst aspects again that we accept without objection.

Military. Sure it's voluntary but who pays?
Social Security Police, Fire, Public Education, (and any Govt subsidized Community College) Public Hospitals (beyond donations)

How about PBS? National Parks? I mean really, anything provided by the Government in return for our taxes "can" be described as a "Socialist" process.

But of course there are no commercial alternatives to these programs so people believe what they decide is appropriate based on thier level of ignorance.

Let's take this example. SpaceX just took men to the Space Station. But virtually every other space achievement before yesterday was the result of a "Socialist NASA program.". Unless we want to stay changing definitions.

Get a dictionary, and while you do it GOP, stop at Facism, look on the mirror, then continue on to the S pages.

LOL... Get a Xanax too...!

This is why I'm an earlier post I told folks to look to history. Not only have things always happened before, but the answer to "why is this happening?" can generally be found there as well. People don't ACT as much as they REACT.

Social programs in America are under attack and have been for a long time. They are shrinking. Ironic, since taxes just keep going up on the working class. Greedy d#%ks want to privatize and profit from everything while others take care of the costs. But, we are supposed to be driving the car. We fell asleep at the wheel. Actually, we got drunk and had the music up too loud and didn't pay attention to the road.
