In keeping with the old joke that the definition of a gaffe is when a politician accidentally tells the truth, here's Trump's recent gaffe:
“I could have been relaxing at Mar-a-Lago or in the south of France ― which I would prefer to being in this country, frankly.”
"I could have been relaxing at Mar-a-Lago or in the south of France, which I would prefer to being in this country frankly," the former president told a rally.

There's some question about whether or not Trump actually said "to" but I have no doubt he would prefer to be in the south of France.
The reality is that Trump needs to stay in this country so he can continue to inflame and fleece his base in order to generate donations to cover his legal fees.
Trump's best hope is delay, delay, delay. It wouldn't surprise me if at least some of the legal proceedings drag on for 8-10 years. This will require truly massive amounts of cash. He's spent at least $40 million on legal fees just this year:
His political action committee, Save America, is expected to disclose Monday that it spent more than $40 million on legal fees during the first half of the year for costs related to defending the former president, his aides and other allies.

His legal fees will ramp up considerably during the trials.
So, unfortunately, we will probably be stuck with many, many years of the Trump "Inflame and Fleece" fundraising show.
