As with other replies, an IR control system should be easy to use and configure, work reliably, and not cost too much.

Yes, I'm currently using a Xantech IR repeater to control devices that are not in line-of-sight of my remote. Being able to add devices at reasonable cost is the most important for me. The wires also need to be of decent length so they'll get where I need them to reach.

1) Nope, stricly line of sight.
2) Probably not. Most listening is done in one room.
3) Reliability at a reasonable cost. Smooth user interface for easy use.

3. Functionality/reliability - it needs to work each time it relays a complex macro and be "plasma proof". :)

Yes
What features do you feel are important for IR for this type of a system.
Ease of use. This has to be something that is easy enough for my to quickly program as many commands that I want from my other controllers, as well as be incredibly easy for my wife to use.

yes, i may add it but it is down the list of upgrades
it should be easy to use,be able to control all components and RF would be very nice.

1) yes and no. My RF converts to IR to distribute the signals.

If not are you planning to add it to your system in the future?

What features do you feel are important for IR for this type of a system.
Reliability and the ability to distribute signals without individual IR eyes if you wish to do so.
