1. Are you considering pure digital connectivity for your AV System in '06?

Absolutely, I don't like the clutter of 3 Component Video Cables and then 2 RCA cables, it would be much easier to just use 1 HDMI. Unfortunately, receivers that support HDMI start at way over my budget.

2. If so, check out PureLink's Free Digital Connectivity Audit to help you figure it all out. Tell us what you've got, we'll tell you how to hook it up. Come back here and tell us about your experience.

Just filled out the form, hope I get some useful advice :)

An hdmi interface on all of my units would be great. One line from receiver to display would make it so much easier.
Checked out the link. Looks to be a solid product. It would help with multiple problems.

I am considering it now. My LCD television only has one HMDI input, which is currently occupied by my HDTV cable converter/DVR. I have just purchased an upconverting DVD player which has an HDMI interface I would like to use and my video output from my home PC is DVI only, so I have been looking at HDMI switchers.

Well the HDS-41R 4-in x 1-out HDMI switcher certainly sounds like exactly what I'm looking for- except its pricepoint. At a MSRP of $549, it won't fit my budget. Its "little brother" the 2-in x 1-out HDS-21R is a better fit for me now at $299, but of course that only gives me 1 additional HDMI input. I love the remotes for each of the units and the fact they are HDCP compliant, so I will certainly keep them under advisment. I'm hoping maybe I can find the 4-in on sale sometime in the near future...

All in all, th Digital Connectivity Audit is a nice tool.

All digital = Most certainly. (wave of the future man)
Personally, I think the DVI/HDMI switching devices are to much money at the moment.
I mean you can pick up an entire JVC receiver with HDMI switching for half that price.
Granted having a pure switching station is the way I would go.
(and from the pic, this looks like an awesome switcher)
It would be something I would highly consider just on looks alone.

The link did not work at all for me. (Whats up with that Tom)

Are you considering pure digital connectivity for your AV System in '06?

Yes...I will be building a new house in '06 and will be putting
an LCD TV on the wall and will want the best connection I can get. The source components will most likey be across the room, so optical may be my best bet.

Yes I am considering pure digital.

My question would be future considerations, such as 1080p and the delivery of the signal.

1) All digital and on one cable is certainly THE goal, but the process is naturally more evolutionary depending on how often you upgrade components. But most people have product from 1 to 8 years old that doesn't comply (remember when component outs were the shizzle?) I think we need to buy the new components with as much future-thought as possible, but I tend to buy nicer and hold longer, which doesn't help in this journey. The HDMI switcher is certainly helpful, but I think it's a bridge product. I instead ran a line of every type to the projector. So the only value I would see left in such a product is if it performed all the video processing, like a DVDO.\

2) Thanks for the link.

Do I want to consider all digital for 2006, you bet. Right now I'm hoping to make the PS3 the brains of my system, but we'll see about this porr kid's budget allowing it.

I would *LOVE* to go pure digital, but my CRT RP still looks really nice with its lowly component inputs. I am remodeling the basement right now, though, and I am doing it with the idea that it will be all-digital interconnects at some point in the not too distant future.

The audit tool looks really nice, and I may very well give it a try as I get a better idea of what components I'll have in the final configuration.

I am definitely looking at all-digital connections in my new HT. Just moved in, have a dedicated HT room, now looking to see how to fill it.

It's a good posibility. I want to replace everything but I like to drag my feet. Maybe this is the jump start I need.

Only have ditigal connections.. want everything via hdmi in teh future. Also looking for optical rather than copper in the future as there's almost no flexibility in high quality copper HDMI... setting my home theater was a pain because of it

'06 would be wonderful to go digital. But what would I have to trip over if all those little cables go away?

Yes, I need to add HDMI or DVI switching in the next month or so.

I think this unit will fit the bill perfectly!

I am working toward an all digital system, but will need to make a few upgrades first. Considering I just blew a wad o' cash of building the dedicated home theater in the basement, I am on a spending break right now.

Right now the only digital connection that I have is from my PJ to DVD player, I would like to have digital from HDSTB but that is not an option for me yet.

All digital is a most definate in '06. How I plan to do this is still in the air - the TV needs to be upgraded first. So many things I NEED...so little money.

I'd love to go digital since the tv has dvi/hdmi. Upgrading the reciever soon to the rxv2600, but the 811 dish box is dvi
