I would prefer a nice glassy cherry look. There is nothing better when you walk into a room and see the shine and glare off of a set of speakers.

Favorite Color
I like Maple the best. It is not a finish you will see everywhere
and looks very expensive. But I prefer lighter colors of all wood
furniture. PS Hope these come in Maple!

I love any black either a flat/matte style or a glossy. i also really love cherry and rose wood they are both very pretty.

Another vote for Piano/Gloss black. It goes well with anything ,although my wife prefers real wood finishes which is what I ended up buying.

Black since it goes with everything. I like unique textures, not wood grains. Though, I like having the option of a woodgrain.

There are several finishes that I like. Maple and Walnut are two of my favorites. This is because I find these finishes to be less common in most household furnature and especially unique. There are other types of finishes that I find attractive. The most important feature of any finish is that the craftsmenship. A "cheap looking" finish no matter what the color and type is nowhere near as nice as a well crafted piece.

My favorite finish is black (not high gloss). It goes with everything. I do have a pair of Axioms in a custom finish that perfectly matches an armoire that we have but in terms of 'what is my go-to color, it would definately be black.

Piano black has been my choice for flexibility and to make larger speakers act as pieces of furniture rather than eyesores. I've found the matt black wood-look finishes to look cheap - particularly the coarse grained ones - but they reflect less light when placed against a dark coloured projector wall. If the speakers are piano black why not 'spot' them with feature lights - let 'em steal the show!
I purchased bookshelf speakers from aperion in piano black colour for a non dedicated HT room, but they look a bit intense on a matt wall, and the cherry was too limiting. Maybe a manufacture should provide the 'option' of a primer only finish for the handyman type, at a slight discount? Lots of people build they're own home theaters but are shy of in-wall speakers, change their decore for the SAF, or move home a lot.
A happy medium/option might be a brushed metal black finish to match components/racks. Why make 'em look like wood if they're mdf? I've painted older speakers with metal finishes before, they look great in the right setting.
There's also the problem of finding a happy medium between the contemorary look of most components and the fact that you can't afford a new home if you buy great gear! I like the Aperion towers appearance because they side mount the powered sub, showing more of the slick finish, and they have a fairly minimalist plynth at the bottom that allows it to fit in tradional or contemporary homes. They're a great middle ground.

A light coloured real wood veneer such as natural birdsey maple or cherry finish is my favourite because of it's high WAF and modern look, which integrates well with a room's decor.
Would I pay the steep premium for real wood veneer? With companies like Energy's new Reference Conoisseur bringing out affordable real wood speakers and even more exciting, Axiom's upcoming line of real wood speakers, you bet! But going from a Paradigm Studio 20 to a Signature S2 is a stretch, if not for my budget than definately my inner cheapskate.

I prefer a wood stain that would match the other entertainment furniture, wood trim in the room, the room furniture, etc. But, as others have said; a nice glossy black finish is alway a good choice! Looks classy and matches with most anything.

I would have to go with a black finish almost always. It's simple and doesn't draw so much attention. Would finish is nice if it goes with everything else in the room but the flexibility goes with black. Piano Gloss Black would be the top choice for me but my speakers are current Black Wood Veneer which also works fine.

Personally I prefer the Dark Cherry finishes on a loudspeakers. They seem to offer me a high WAF, match my decor and appear more "furniture grade". Plus, I like the speaker to be part of the room and not disappear in the room.
From a business point of view, if I were manufacturing speakers, I would offer three primary finishes: Light wood (light color), Dark Cherry, and a piano black. I do own both Dark Cherry (veneer) and Piano black. Black obviously is the most versatile, when it comes to decor.
Choice is the primary ingredient! I do not believe that the consumer needs 10 different finishes etc (woud increase the cost to the consumer because of the loss of economies in producing), but the majority of the public would work the above choices into their decor as long as the speaker offers high/exceptional value in fit, finish and most importantly sound quality.
