Contest Questions:
Have you considered installing a residential structured wiring system?
Absolutely. We're in a 2.5 year old house and we're looking at distributing audio and video to the majority of the house while we finish our basement this fall.
What aspect of a residential structured wiring system interests you the most?
The efficiency of the system and ease of use. We need something that will meet the needs of our audio and video distribution wishes, but it's crucial that it's easy for everybody to use. The WAF is critical...
What is the greatest barrier you face in purchasing/installing a residential structured wiring system?
Confidence that the product will meet our needs adequately. We're not looking for perfection (though that would be nice), we're looking for something functional and easy to use.
What manufacturer immediately comes to mind when you think of the term residential structured wiring?
It has to be Russound...because we have a few friends that have installed extensive whole-house A/V systems recently and they have gone with Russound. Additionally, I needed a "through the solid cabinet door" IR solution, and Russound had the product. By the way... I checked Impact Acoustics first...:D I've purchased all of my HDMI cabling from you guys and I know that you carry a superior product!
Would you install a residential structured wiring system yourself or would you hire an integrator?
I absolutely would install it myself. I've wired several home theater setups myself, but I would probably call upon the experience of my friends that have had experience with whole-house A/V systems.

Structured wiring

1. Have you considered installing a residential structured wiring system?
I have considered a whole house audio system but was not planing on phone, video, and a profesional cabinet.

2. What aspect of a residential structured wiring system interests you the most?
Audio VCs and wiring. Professional enclosure. All the cables and connectors are included.

3. What is the greatest barrier you face in purchasing/installing a
residential structured wiring system?

Existing home makes wiring more difficult. House is only 3 bdrm and multiple video feeds are not necessary. This would be a DIY project. Cost of the kit.

4. What manufacturer immediately comes to mind when you think of the term residential structured wiring?
Belden cable.

5. Would you install a residential structured wiring system yourself or would you hire an integrator?
Self. Might work with an integrator if I was designing a HT for a new construction home.

1. Not anything like a system, more like passing one or two wires behind the drywalling.
2. Convenience, knowing I won't have to draw diagrams to pass some cables when I bring that sub home.
3. Definitely the installation aspect, although I can't say I've actively looked for an installer, but the process seems tedious.
4. Rives, although they just design.
5. Given extremely clear, concise instructions I'd give it my best attempt. I know room structures and other factors vary greatly so this might be a stretch. Although, a pair of instructions for given room types (think garage, basement etc.) seems plausible.
