My sister told me that high humidity is bad on EVs. I wonder if there is any truth in that as I live near the Florida east coast and that would figure hugely in my decision to purchase one.
I think it is either extremes of heat or cold, not so much humidity. The batteries are effectively sealed as far as I know, so I am not sure humidity would be a factor.

I live in Bergen in Norway ..... about 95% of all new cars are EVs
It is not very often here that it doesn´t rain  ... I never heard of any issues with EVs and humidity here, .... but it is very different from Florida..... Here it is cold with high humidity, I reckon FL with warm and high humidity is a completely different animal.

Unless it is leased, I don't necessarily see that happen often. People that change frequently is likely the same with ICE cars, they just want the latest thing and their deal/warranty is up. With EVs, the technologies are still changing fast, which is why I leased this first one. I wanted to see how it worked for me real-world and I for sure knew the tech was going to change with the switch to NACS from CCS with Hyundai.

Over the weekend, I dropped by the dealer because it wouldn't let me add my car to the app. They fixed it in a few min, but they had the car I wanted :D The N.
Nice car

My next car is definitely leased .... I don´t wanna "bind up" lots of capital with a very high interest rate
I can lease with 3 years, 4 years, 5 years .... Quite a few cars now have 5 year warranty, I reckon it can be attractive then to go for a 5 year lease period :)

Trumpy is always bad news. He also stopped the tax credit, after "forcing" these companies to build factories to build cars here to qualify for it. Great job numb nuts. Musk thinks it will help him vs. his competitors, but I really don't see that being the case. We'll see if they reinstate it if Tesla sales tank. BYD shipped more cars than Tesla for the first time.

Rivian became #1 in the electric delivery van over Ford and Mercedes.

Cannoo filed for bankruptcy. I was reading the article and it seems the new CEO brought in all his own consulting, who made money off that company. Then they changed the direction of what the company was doing and basically killed it off. This was done seemingly intentionally, so someone is probably going to buy it up...

I was bummed about Canoo. They were doing some cool stuff and had seemingly written a great plan for diversification into their design concept.
Even though it looks weird, their Truck was truly designed around functionality as a work vehicle rather than just pandering to American consumerism. Then there was their military contract as well as the fleet service they had established in Europe.

Mismanagement is a b!tch, though.

I hope you are right and somebody buys them up and keeps it moving forward.

It´s really hard with the EV market now in Europe......
- Chinese cars is NO-GO for many reasons
- French cars are unreliable due to electric and other issues
- Volkswagen has insanely crappy software, crusie control that is simply dangerous
- Volvo and Polestar is now Chinese brand
- Tesla is off the radar after Musk´s behavior
- No way a Toyota, everything about the cars is annoying
- New Alfa Romeo has insanely poor range
- Thought about Jeep, but I heard it´s on the "unreliability top"
- Audi seem to be lagging on innovation
- BMW is too pricey IMHO
- I think Ford Mustang mach-e has these incredibly annoying sounds when I drive, and too pricey over here
- Not sure I like the KIAs
WTF todo now o_O

Maybe Huynday?

The only lingering issue I'm aware of with Hyundai is the ICCU issues that they finally recognized and have a recall for. I think Hyundai/KIA is a solid choice from the research I did prior to leasing ours. Fast charging speed, good range, above average build and QC.
This coming from someone that would never consider an Hyundai/KIA ICE model.

Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are basically going to be the same internals with different body. The platform and majority of features are the same.

VW gave that $5b grant to Rivian because they really want access to their software :) This was an actual mentioned point IIRC. Polestar / Volvo is Chinese owned, but still Swedish engineered. Far too pricey though.

Mercedes EVs seem decent, but pricey. Audi and BMW both lagging. I am not a fan of how the Teslas drive, though I have not driven the 2024 revised model. My understanding is it is improved, but still not where it should be.

Like Matt, I did a lot of research, drove a bunch of cars and ended up with the Hyundai.

why not ?
Lots and lots of motor and mechanical issues, as well as the whole security SNAFU they had. The mechanical issues are not going to be present in an EV because there's no ICE and no trans. The hacking issue is different, in that people can "capture" your remote code to access your car, but I think that is a lot less likely than what was happening with the ICE cars.

Regarding the thefts:

I asked because two members of our coffee clutch have KIA's and have had zero issues, one of which is now 3 years old.

It is particular engines for the mechanical issues, so not all of them will have problems. As for the thefts, it seemed to be prevalent in particular states. The Ioniq 5 is the first Hyundai I've owned. 9 months so far, basically problem free, except for that recall mentioned by Matt.

Yup, Engine failures and theft vulnerability. It's been bad here in Colorado with Hyundai/KIA been the overwhelming vehicles of choice for smash and grabs of vape/gun shops.
