I suppose that I should just look it up, but is Small Claims court a possibility even if you're out of the state of Colorado? Giving him the nickname of Shifty doesn't do justice.

I'm not sure either since it's out of state. I'll check with my attorney that have on retainer:rolleyes:

One thing that I was told would make things easier is if I could be sure that he had assets in my state(LA). Unfortunately, I was told checking into this is fairly expensive. Once that is done + a few hours of attorney's fees and it's close to breaking even on the whole deal. Though I suppose it may have to come to that if it can result in anything positive.

Shifty Takes Quality Seriously

A lot of the builds, with the exception of stuff from China, is being done in house. Presumably this is to ensure stricter oversight with respect to quality. Here's an example culled from a post today at chez-123.

Marion writes,
I received my sub today and hooked up and had 2 problems. Hum and flapping noise at any volume. I read the post and thought I would check the screws first.
The wood facing 4 screws were somewhat tight so I tightened and problem was still there.
I removed facing to check the screw holding the driver in place and there are no screws. It is totally loose.
What size and how many screws do I need?
Thanks for any help.
Schifter replies,
Oh My Gosh...

Please call me... lets discuss this... 303.543.7500 ext 308...

Many thanks... and huge apologies...

mls

PS - can you send some pictures for all of us to see... What finish do you have as well...

PPS - please e-mail me with your complete name, etc. Perhaps you can include your order number... mls@av123.com
Edoggrc51 replies,
So all the screws fell out? Or there were zero screws, period?? Either way, that should be unacceptable.
Followed by Schifter,
COMPLETELY...

I'm simply mystified as I know the 3 steps these go through before they can go...

It means that at a minimum 2 people missed this - and most probably 3 (me included)...

The way these are built at av123 we load the drivers and the amps - nothing is shipped that has "no load"... These are separated...

I've PM'd - e-mailed etc. - the IP is a mobile phone IP (mymmode) - so I'm not sure if Marion will see this right away (or not)...

Color me curious for sure...

Best...

mls
Yessiree. It's good to have a quality program in place. Maybe they need more steps like order some screws.

Ouch! Just when I thought the previous complaints about drivers and amps not being properly secured could not be topped.

There has been more than one complaint about the "screw" issue. There must have been a bad batch shipped out recently.

MLS has been posting at AVS this evening.

I didn't realize that the MFW-15 is built at three different factories, each having their own methods and outcomes. As an OEM and designer of the sub, you would think each factory would be required to follow the same methods.

Picture this. A makeshift dinner table at the AV123 "factory". Various boxes of Chinese food, fast food hamburgers and fries and assorted subwoofers populate the table. Mark to Lynn. "Pass me that M5 screw and a couple of hamburgers".

Has anyone found ketchup on their subwoofers yet?

You nay-sayers must have missed this thread on av123 forum. Sure seems like most everything is fine now.
Well, in terms of their competition; popular players such as Aperion, SVS,Axiom, Ascend Acoustics etc etc also offer industry leading customer service. Getting great communication and service is nothing special in this industry; it is expected with most companies because it is one way these companies stay competitive. Some of these companies also offer longer warranties for their products and more customer friendly return policies in regards to customer service.

You are quite right, MinusTheBear - strong customer service is essential. The key is that this strong customer service must be consistent, day-in and day-out, and as transparent as possible. Ideally, you just need to have an easy purchasing experience, with little or no need to test the quality of the after-sale support. If you do need to test the company's ability to support a problem, that needs to be equally graceful.

I wonder if the thread will get locked or sdeuskar permanently banned? Oops - forgot that praise is welcome, and only inconvenient questions bring down the moderation hammer.

I really like your point here especially on consistency.

Gee, sounds like time to write the principals at AVS regarding MLS using their forum as an extension of his. Regardless of where the box is built, you can be assured there'll always be plenty of B- stock and worse on hand.

They do always seem to have B-Stock MFW-15 for sale. An interesting statistic would be the percentage of B ( and C) stock MFW's sold/total # of MFW's sold.

Here is another tidbit from a happy customer on the av123 forum:

I received my mfw-15 late in the evening Oct 16th -talk about your restless nights well at 4:30 am my wife awoke and found me hooking up the mfw-15 she said I looked like a kid at x-mass morning -she got that right , first thing I put in Eric Clapton-slowhand sa-cd WOW what an improvement this mfw-15 is and I haven`t even done measurements and dialed it in to my system yet , we listened to the whole cd before having breakfast -while eating my wife looked at me and said the last time I saw that look on your face was when are son was born then she said your not going to start crying are you , well I did not start crying , but I couldn`t of said/put it any better than that and that pretty much sums it up on how I felt/feel about the mfw-15
The mfw-15 evokes similar reactions to your child being born! Now that is some kind of sub. Again I wonder about all of this negativity???

My post the other day about great customer service was tongue in cheek, but I'm not sure everyone realized that. So let's make this one clear, I am posting this as a lark. The quote is real enough, either pathetic if you want to take it on face value or else some of the worst hype I've seen in a while. What's even better is a long time mls supporter chiming right in on top of it saying it was a "great write up".

I really think av123 should come up with a speaker line called "The Barnum"...

I think if I was showing as much emotion over a subwoofer as I did over the birth of my own child, my wife would have an issue with that - and I think she'd be justified. Did the person who complimented the write-up say anything about the fact that the person's evaluations were done without taking any measurements or doing any calibration?

No, no comment about the lack of proper set up. but that wasn't a big surprise.

I'm with you on the wife thing...

Not last I looked. Maybe before doing any of those he'd benefit from checking if he's got all his screws and they're all tight and not stripped.

It looks like they removed these posts, much to their credit. See post #962 in that thread.

"The Barnum". It walks, it talks, it crawls on it's belly like a reptile. And for 10 cents, just 10 cents, that's one tenth of a dollar folks, it can be all yours................in China.
