In my bedroom system with the Denon S960H AVR, shall I set my mains as small or large? Speakers are Ascend CMT-340 which have dual 6.5" woofers.

Oh yeah... and the center! You can see what it is below. Heights and surrounds, leave as small I imagine.

Small just means use bass management. Large means full range. If you have a sub generally its recommended to set them to small and start with a xover of 80hz

Yes, the AVR uses Audesey. Did that several months ago. Does Audesey set speaker size too?

Audyssey's own recommendation is 80hz/small to start, Denon ignores that and provides their own recommendation.

Oh, ok. Well they are set to small. My center is quite the monster with two 8" woofers. That is also set to small. Is that good with subs?

Which model is it ? I have my front towers set to 60’or 80 hz and they go down to 38hz.
It doesn’t add more bass to run full range and double bass I tried .
Yes, two 10" Klipsches.
Which model ? I should had got one back when they made downfiring I’d have to go Martin Logan now for that.

Just because they are 8" in diameter doesn't mean a lot. What was the suggested crossover from Denon? I'd be mostly concerned with localization with subs over individual speakers/crossovers.

It's a Crites CSC-1. Here's a couple shots of it. I really like it a lot. Sounds extremely clear. It may not be congruent with my mains, but the system sounds fantastic to me. The subs are front-firing 300 watt units. I do have a down-firing 10" Klipsch in another room.

My set up has big mains and center plus 2 additional subs. Tried both small and large settings and found the large setting had a fuller sound. Experiment to find out. Most AVRs also have crossover filters to set which lower frequencies are sent to the mains.

Large mains don't mean a lot as far as actual capabilities go....

Depends which mode you use for bass, LFE or LFE+Main; with LFE+Main the crossover limits the sub's range, not the mains, as the mains are simply full range.

What fronts are those ?! They look big.

I’d make a new thread with more details about your system etc .. but generally I don’t go lower then 60 on crossovers as I’m using subs .even cheapo subs outperform most towers.

Double bass doesn’t seem to work with either of my systems . Then again my fronts only go down to 40hz not 20.

Details of my systems are in the signature here. The mains are not big. Ascend mini towers. I got them free from a guy at work. When he moved, someone damaged one woofer in each speaker. So I purchased 2 woofers from Ascend. They are just perfect for the situation. Plus, I got the the stands for free when I bought some large ADS speakers that I ended up selling soon after I bought them. But I kept the stands.
I think my xovers are in that system set at 80 for the whole shootin' match.

There's really no reason that you can't try it both ways. Use REW to see the response from the mains by themselves, turn them off and look at the response from the sub and then repeat for the center channel. Save the files and start REW again with only the front speakers and add the sub, watching for phase cancellations. Move the crossover points in Manual Speaker Setup and while you're in that part of the menu, change the distance setting to .1 foot and adjust the distance from the mic to the mains and/or sub, watching as the response changes. You will definitely see when the crossover and distance are coming closer to correct and you should easily hear when it is or isn't correct. Save the settings and the REW file, then start it again with the mains and sub, then add the center channel- adjust the delay & distance settings and watch as the response become smoother.

hat is REW? I a would assume it's another name for calibration. I think this Denon uses Audyssey.
