Cheap DVD's?

Anyone know of a place online where you can purchase inexpensive DVD's, I'm not talking about movies no one has ever heard of, but kind of main stream type things. There has got to be some place to purchase something like that if we can get everything else cheaper skipping the middleman in the supply chain. Anyone have suggestions, I'd really like to start purchasing more DTS dvd's but its too hard to buy dvd's at retail places, varied selection everywhere?

Simply go to www.half.com Used DVDs of all types are sold there for very reasonable prices. Don't let the word used scare you, I have bought dozens of them and most were like brand new. In many cases top titles can be had for $3 - $5.

yeah, so does blockbuster, pretty much everytime im in there to rent a movie, i dont rent one and just buy 3 of em, was just curious if there was a place to get them cheaper and not as "used" as a rental copy

Yes, when there is a big scratch through the center of the disc that causes it to lose tracking and skip.

I would go the Columbiahouse route. They have a huge selection of titles. I can usually average ~7-8 bucks per DVD brand new. You just have to know how to play the system correctly.

1)Find a better code for your order. (DVDTalk.com has a great thread for this)

2)Order the expensive titles for your introductory package.

3)Preorder your 2 commitment movies required as 19.95 titles.

4)Close the account.

I have ordered hundreds of DVDs through Columbiahouse. The have always been easy to deal with and provide excellent DVDs cheap. You can have 2 accounts set up simulaneously at one address. I used to do this to build my collection, but now normally open them one at a time. If you don't mind waiting 2-3 months to get the newest releases, the prices can't be beaten. You can catch a few e-tailers with good deals once in a while, but they have really died off. Reel.com is now out of business, but used to have some really great deals when DVDs first came out. I buy about 75% of DVDs from Columbiahouse, 20% from DeepDiscountDVD.com, and 5% other places. BlockBuster and anyone else selling used DVDs for more than I can get them new through CH can kiss my ***. I don't buy used DVDs. It's like a box of chocolates.

Sounds alot like BMG, used them when I was younger to buy CD's got screwed though, they'd some cd's in the mail and it was one of those return it if you dont want it thing, well, they would never get to me to return so I had to pay for a bunch

I belonged to BMG and was always satisfied with their serivce. I just made sure to tell them each month I didn't want the featured selection. Once or twice I forgot, but just sent it back to them when I received it with no problem.

I do www.yourmusic.com now which is part of BMG. Good deals as long as you always have something in your queue.

CH has always been tempting but I averaged the price at about $10 and change per DVD. I can do better than that on ebay. Maybe with some help from dvdtalk, I'll subscribe.

Out of over 1000 rentals from Blockbuster, I've only had about 3 at the most that had a scratch on it big enough to make a difference. I'd buy from Blockbuster.

Yeah, I rent and buy from Blockbuster all the time, and havnet had a problem ever I dont think, just know that if Blockbuster is selling it used, it's already been watched more times than I ever will watch it.

Well yes and if its broke in half thats not good either. I mean used as in normal use. Hollywood video here checks them out pretty good and if there is a problem,they will take it back. I've not had a problem with the 15-20 used ones i've got.

I used to use Columbia House a lot. Joined, then canceled account, then joined again, then canceled again, etc. Got a couple of hundred DVDs that way.

Like someone else has mentioned, always pick out the EXPENSIVE titles, like 2 disc collector's editions, those count as one title.

A few years ago there were some crazy codes where you basically ended up paying like $5 per DVD. I went on quite a buying spree back then. Have since sold off most of those DVDs. Didn't lose any money when I sold them on half.com and amazon. Actually I think I made some money selling them.


For individual titles, www.deepdiscountdvd.com has some of the best prices on the web. Outside of Columbia House, I usually shop there.

I can't buy or rent from BlockBuster or the like. l had too many bad experiences a long time ago with scratched DVDs. I also buy so many movies each month that I do not have time to watch them all quickly and may not find out they are jacked up until its too late to do anything about it. As I recall though, I could never get used movies cheaper there than new movies at CH. Also, I feel that BlockBuster is the Walmart of home video stores (only without the super cheap prices).

This place is cool...just put the title of the movie you're looking for in the search window and it will pull up all the different version of that movie. Click on the one the floats your boat and a javascript window will pull up showing the packaging of that dvd along with what retailer has the lowest price before and after shipping!

columbia house

I've just joined columbia house, b/c of the dvdtalk thread. I'm averaging about $6.70 per dvd, which isnt bad.
With bmgmusic, its about $4.33 per cd. I'm pretty happy with both.
