my comment was 'tongue and cheek' and to Philly's problems, they are as bad as ever no argument. As for our homeless / encampment issues , we've had them ragging big time since COVID but when I see some of the pierced, body tattooed misfits crying out for what they believe they are owed, being interviewed on the 6 o'clock news, my sympathy ends right there ..........

OMG, they're still around? How time flies, the Woodstock festival was just a few years ago.

Seriously, I have no life.
So you just thought you'd dump on the homeless for a problem you're not very aware of? Or is that your cousin's doing? Or simply too much Faux news perhaps?

Do you just live in a constant state of whipped up fears?
Did you even read my comments? Jesus!
I'm dumping on the homeless problem not being addressed in a constructive way, not the people.

Nature of the human race and big cities to an extent, not helped by white flight to the burbs....
Let me guess- you live in an area that used to be very nice (even if not considered 'affluent') that has been transformed into a slum, right?

Have you ever lived in a part of a major city where crime increased on a regular basis and property condition degraded badly? Did you have cars and other things stolen, an attempted break in at your house or murders within a block of where you live? How about hearing gunfire on a regular basis? Did you gradually lose any sense of safety over time because of the increase in muggings and armed robbery?

What would you do in that case?

That's what it's supposed to be, but the executive branch has been quite far off the rails for some time and nobody seems to be doing much to stop it.
What about the legislative branch? No blame for them?

Must be nice to judge others from the comfort of our lounge chairs. I live in the Philly suburbs too.

Sadly I do this myself occasionally before I catch myself and think back to what my father used to say, whenever I was being judgemental of others less fortunate than myself, for one reason or another.

'Everyone at the table of the Lord gets a piece of bread (troubles), some more so than others. Be grateful you're not fat'.

It seemed to me at the time that he had a million of these old Sicilian proverbs, which at first seemed nonsensical from an old uneducated man. Only later in life did I realize how wise he was on the subject of life. Basically this was a take on the old saying, 'There but for the Grace of god go I''.

I don't have the answers on homelessness. A good majority of them are are mentally ill. To just say, 'let them rot!', seems a bit perverse and cruel, especially if they can't help themselves. We've shut down all the state mental institutions across the country since it became the rage under Reagan's watch and now expect the cops, in most instances, to 'solve' the problem, which they are totally unequipped to do.

So tell us more about your neighborhood....
My neighborhood is fine, but its proximity to Milwaukee is the problem- idiots coming in to steal cars, rummage through cars, break into garages, vandalize (break things and spray paint siding, as happened last Saturday morning), drive in during a high speed chase.....someone 1/4 mile to the West of the area fired a round into the air and it went through the window of an SUV. A body was left along the RR tracks, too. A car being chased by the PD last Sunday passed about a block away at 100 MPH.

All of the incidents I posted earlier involved me, where I lived (three different areas of MKE), before I bought my house so before anyone tells me that I never lived in a bad area or that I fled to the suburbs because of White Privilege, I left because I was sick of losing my stuff and being in an area that's clearly dangerous- more dangerous now, after 25 years have passed. You couldn't pay me to live in any of the three locations.

Now that 150 MKE police officers have quit or retired and the Mayor wants to eliminate 120 additional positions, I don't have any hope for Milwaukee. It's not going to magically turn itself around and that goes for the other cities where Police are being defunded. The reason the budget for PDs is so high is because of the crime they have to deal with, not because they spend too much. While the latter can't be discounted as a possibility, I recommend listening to a police scanner to find out what happens on a regular basis.

How about yours?

Education and experience may be different, but both can be great teachers.

No, it's not "all" mental institutions around the country that were closed- do a google search before you post something that's so incorrect. Just about every hospital has a section for this and many facilities ONLY treat mental/emotional problems.

Police are trained to deal with mentally ill people and those come in many forms. I listen to a police scanner app and hear many calls about people who are making comments or threats to harm or kill themselves. The dispatch centers receive the calls, but it's the PD and EMS who respond, usually along with a fire truck. If the person is beyond the expertise of the PD, they use the EMTs, or they call a Psych specialist/negotiator. The problem with mentally/emotionally ill people is that they're incredibly reactive and unpredictable, as well as possibly violent. I have never heard a call where someone made a comment about hurting these people, but I have heard many say something about getting them some help. Many times, it's a friend or family member who calls in about these people, sometimes it's the person having problems who calls to get help and in some cases, they get a 'welfare check' because someone is walking or running and ranting, yelling, talking to themselves or acting very strangely.

A lot of homeless are drug/alcohol abusers, some didn't have much of a chance in life and some (many) lost their job for reasons outside of their control. Programs exist for all of them, but they have to want to use these unless there's some reason they end up there because of something they have done.

You missed my point, what I was saying (individual pierced / tattooed to the 'nines) , is that I was making a statement as to the amount of $$ she had tied up in her body/artwork and that her judgement in so far as $$ probably has led to her homelessness. I fully understand plenty of people have truly fallen on hard times and as I said earlier I don't have all the answers I do my best with two of my favorite charities, 'Bridge of Hope' and 'Habitat for Humanity'

At least she can carry her artworks with her everywhere without fear of theft. ;) :D
While I don't have that issue, my artworks would perish in a fire. :)

She is being a jackass about the stimulus bill. Only appropriate for a Democrat.

Yep she is truly hurting the people that she claims to want to help. Even some of the Dems are starting to question her. And being a jackass these days is not party specific. :)

The repubs stimulus offer still is not very comprehensive, but better than nothing with the do-nothing repubs and its still owned by drumphy in the long term.

I think Nancy needs to accept this and then when Trump is gone and the GOP in a minority start to fix the country.... it's gonna take time and money that is for sure. We have become a 1st world poop hole.

And yet, over one million come here from other countries annually, because it's better than where they lived.
