Alice In Wonderland

The only character development should have been Alilce. The rest of the characters are not central to the story, only what happens to her. I read the book a long time ago and it is a classic for a reason. My understanding is, it doesn't quite follow the book.

Well, this is good to hear, especially the anti-communist message you speak of. I have tickets for a Monday afternoon show at an Imax 3D.
You see it first and let me know if you caught it. It is very subtle. I could be totally wrong too, but it struck me that way.

Are you suggesting that Burton didn't use the same tactics Cameron used in Avatar to present his message? :D

I don't know if it was by accident, on purpose or I am just imagining something that is not really there, but it appeared that way to me. A couple of other Burton movies struck me that way too. The one that was most obvious was the pro family message in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I saw this in 3D IMAX and was interested but underwhealmed. The contrived story seemed too contemporary, but didn't offend. What surprised me is that the ultimate presentation in 3D on the enormous IMAX screen in Baltimore's Science Center was just OK. The 3D was nice, but it appeared to detract from the image quality. I was dead center, the best possible seat but what the 3D added seemed to be offset by a loss of detail in the image. I don't think it was the presentation since I have seen other 2D IMAX movies here and they were spectacular. I had the same impression of Avatar, which I saw in 2D on a great screen, before seeing it in 3D. Is this 3D stuff for real? Will it get better or is this IT?

ps, either on purpose or by accident or whatever, I think there was an anti-communist message in this movie. That is a huge plus for me:)
What? Was there a message? Anti-communist? Do we still have to worry about Bolsheviks seeding us with secret messages in movies? I thought that the message was not to mess with Anne Hathaway or she'll send Johnny Depp after you. That makes me quake in my boots.

I saw this one on Blu-ray over the weekend and didn't feel it necessary to start another thread on it because it was just OK. I am not sure what the goal was or why they didn't call it "Return to Underland/Wonderland. It is made clear that this is the same character much later, but the new story doesn't really hold up too well. IMO. It lacks some of what made the original story interesting. Visually it was impressive, but that isn't enough to make a solid film, and this one ends up being of Burton's weaker offerings IMHO.

Everyone in the movie is entirely animated except for some facial features and Johnny Depp and Alice are the only "real" complete people (Sort of).
Great! This confirms my long-time suspicion that Anne Hathaway (the White Queen in the movie) is not human. She looks like Michael Jackson. Or Michael Jackson was her avatar.
