I saw this in 3D IMAX and was interested but underwhealmed. The contrived story seemed too contemporary, but didn't offend. What surprised me is that the ultimate presentation in 3D on the enormous IMAX screen in Baltimore's Science Center was just OK. The 3D was nice, but it appeared to detract from the image quality. I was dead center, the best possible seat but what the 3D added seemed to be offset by a loss of detail in the image. I don't think it was the presentation since I have seen other 2D IMAX movies here and they were spectacular. I had the same impression of Avatar, which I saw in 2D on a great screen, before seeing it in 3D. Is this 3D stuff for real? Will it get better or is this IT?
