Yeah, that's a lot.
Now that big box retailers are out of the picture for physical disc releases, these studios and boutique labels can increase the costs. Disney has been jacking up their steelbook costs to around $40 to as high as $50.

I saw the Tombstone 4k was put on a 66gb disc. Disney is so freaking cheap! 100gig disc should be automatic. The movie should at least be 80gigs, but now has been compressed to under 66gigs. I hate it when movie studios do this to their movies. All the Avengers movies are on 66gig discs. So, 2.5-3 hour movies are coming in at 56ish gigs when you try to rip them. Hahaha that's horrible. Yet, I'm ripping older movies from the 90's where the studio put them on 100gig discs and they're coming at 80+ gigs. I just ripped Schindler's list and it was a 90gig download. Any movie over 2 hours should automatically be put on 100gig disc. Give us, the paying customer the best possible version of your films. That's all we ask. :D
I think the amount of grain in older movies tends to inflate the bitrate requirements. It's maybe not just being cheap. Digital cameras tend to be cleaner images and there's less dither to try and bake into the encoding for of the video. You're right that they can just throw more bitrate at something if they have determined that it is not actually adding anything quality-wise, I can understand saving a few pennies in production cost if they can.

I don't have a reason to buy most Disney movies as their releases tend to be average. I am OK with $40-50 if there is good content and worth while AQ and PQ improvements. $60 is pushing it, except that it is Arrow, who recently have done really well with many of their remasters.

You hardcore. I’ll just be thankful to get Tombstone, Dark City, TRON Legacy, and The Hunt on 4K remastered.

I agree that newer digitally shot movies are so much cleaner and don’t require as much size (80-100GB) to look awesome.

Many older movies still look like crap even if they are put on 300GB. :D

Dark City is pretty, well, DARK lol. So I am curious to see a review of the PQ and AQ before I plop $60 down for it. If it gets a good review, I might be interested. I just rewatched it about a month ago.
