FANTASY ALERT!
Now that Favre is a Viking and will be playing in a dome. For all you fantasy football people, Percy Harvin (wr of vikings) will be overlooked by the majority of the people participating in these drafts. If you find him slipping, grab him, he can end up being the steal of the draft. I look for him to have a monster year, even more so now that Favre is there.
Maybe as a very late round pick. Harvin is very short for an NFL receiver (5'11" on a good day). College WRs learn really quickly that it's a lot harder to play in the NFL and beat CBs and Safeties that are much better in coverage and hit a lot harder than those guys in college. I could see Harvin having some success out of the backfield and as a situational slot receiver, but he's too small and inexperienced to get many looks down by the goal line.
As for Favre- A reader on one of the ESPN blogs constructed an interesting analysis of Brett Favre over the past 5 seasons of his career from 2004-2008. In each of these seasons Favre has been a significantly above average QB through the first 8-10 games of the season, and a significantly below average QB during the last 6-8 games (I'm not going to take the time to fully replicate his analysis). Even when you allow for the fact that Favre was injured at the end of last year, his performance falls off a cliff once you get into late November, December, and January.
Now look at the Vikings last 6 games this year... Chicago at home, @ Arizona, Cincy at home, @ Carolina, @ Chicago, NYG at home. 5 of those games are going to be incredibly challenging (I'm writing off Cincy), and 3 of those are on the road. With the way Favre has been breaking down over the past 5 years at the end of the year, I think the Vikings are going to be severely challenged.
