Just heard about the vick news in this thread. Any details on the contract? Seems to me the Eagles have a talented team already? I hope they didn't make a second mistake in overpaying him.

The Eagles will hold a news conference on Friday morning to announce his signing. The first year of the deal is for $1.6 million with an option for the second year at $5.2 million. Vick can also earn an additional $3 million in incentives over the two years of the contract.

5.2 is waaaaaaaay to much in the 2nd year. I guess this signing would make sense if Donovan gets hurt but honestly Vicks style of QB does not fit the Eagles offense. Vick is not an accurate passer (below average in the NFL IMO) and the Eagles rely heavily on the passing game. Sure you can run the wildcat but it undermines their most important part of their offense - Michael Westbrook.

5.2...lol

It's really not that outrageous of a deal when you consider that most years of NFL contracts are not guaranteed. It provides a great incentive for Vick to behave himself and to work very hard to fit in and be a good corporate citizen. One slip up, however, and it's just as easy to cut him.

I personally don't see Vick as a starting QB in the league anymore. I could see the Eagles using him as a hybrid HB/WR/QB in the backfield along with Westbrook.

I say sometime before the end of the year Vick starts a few games.
Anything is possible. For now it doesn't even matter, he's still on indefinite suspension and hasn't played competitive football for 2+ years. The terms of his resinstatement allow him to be picked up by a team and start to practice, but I don't think he'll be eligible until week 7 at the earliest.

Its all about the wildcat offense this year. The NFL is a copycat league. One team does something new and everyone else has to do the same. Im sure thats where Vick will fit in fine. I just dont know how well McNabb and Vick are going to get along.

McNabb had a fire lit under his *** after the period he got benched at halftime during last season. He looked very confident and played extremely well after that period to the end of the year. It will be intersting on how McNabb handles this situation with Vick.

Quoted from below,

Both head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Donovan McNabb sat in front of the media late into the night on Thursday and explained why they think the decision to reach out and add quarterback Michael Vick to the Eagles is such a positive move for both the team and for a young man who paid the price for mistakes he made in his life.

McNabb said he lobbied heavily to sign Vick, and McNabb expressed not a bit of concern that there would be any kind of "quarterback controversy."

Jeffrey Lurie's comments:
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said he did serious "soul searching" regarding Vick. The owner said he met with Vick for hours and is convinced he can become a force in stopping animal cruelty.

"I needed to see a lot of self hatred in order to approve this," Lurie said.

But Lurie said if Vick is not proactive in working with the community and the humane society, then his signing will be a "terrible decision."

"There's no third chances and we know that. If it isn't fulfilled the way we expect it to be, then it will be the end," Lurie said.

In all honesty, I hope he learned his leason and will become a model citizen. Everyone deserves a second chance.

So lets see if we will ever see McNabb, Westbrook, and Vick in the backfield. That would be a tough one on the defense.

With the "Vick" deal, the Eagles have become my #1 hated NFL team, I am sure they have also lost a lot of fans through this decision.

I'm not even a huge animal lover, but you got to stick to you're ideals.

Honestly, I doubt they've lost any fans. Would you really stop rooting for your favorite team if they signed Vick? I might not be all that happy at first, and maybe I'd boo the guy, but if he spent two years acting like a model player and helping the team win games, I'd probably warm towards him by the end. I certainly would not stop rooting for my team in the interim....

QBs are generally judged by the number of rings they've won, which is one of the reasons why Dan Marino received so much crap over the years because despite the stats, he never won anything. Nobody gave the same crap to Barry Sanders, Steve Largent, Derrick Thomas, or **** Butkus (all guys who never won anything) b/c they're not QBs.
Yeah because Marino had so much talent around him.

He was the best passer i've ever seen including Montana, Moon, Kelly, and Manning.

Of course the NFL has gotten a lot better these days thanks to the decline of baseball and the NBA to some extent. Football is king now.

I agree with Darien that TO is a cancer and literally ruined the cowboys season last year with his antics.

I dont think so, if at all anything he makes them a better team. He gives a extra dimension to the offense. Also as a Giants fan Im not to thrilled that we get to see him twice a year.
