Already available for preorder from some countries, but haven't seen preorder for the US yet:

Europe/Japan etc: All albums on SACD + DVD (PAL/NTSC where applicable and all are said to be region free). I will be importing for certain!

US is going to get DVD (DTS version) + CD - why no SACD or DVD-A? I really don't know. Maybe they feel that regular dvd's will sell better here??

All albums completely remixed from the original multitracks in 5.1 surround, and 2 ch stereo.

These are 2 disc sets. I for one will be importing the SACD + DVD. The SACD's will be hybrid, and the dvd's will contain interviews and extras related to that specific album, as well as some live material, assuming never released stuff. Also, the albums will be released in boxed sets of aprox 5 albums, and those boxed sets will contain another bonus disc that will have all album 'extras' that didn't make the original record due to space.

These look like they are going to be really nice, and the sound (I have been lucky enough to get ahold of a 5.1 sampler given to the press) is excellent.

March 7:
A Trick of the Tail
Wind & Wuthering
And then there were three...
Duke
Abacab
(Available seperate or in boxed set with bonus disc)

July 7th
Genesis - self titled album
Invisible Touch
We can't dance
Calling all stations
(Also available as boxed set)

Dec 7th
Trespass
Nursery Cryme
Foxtrot
Selling England by the Pound
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (Peter Gabriel had his hand in this one big time)
(Boxed set, well of course)

I create another post that shows what's on each disc and the extra's.

I think these are to be around $20 each US and around $90 for the 5+bonus disc boxed set. Pretty reasonable I think.

I actually went to the Atlantic Records site AND the Warners site, and found that they've made it next to impossible to contact them with these sorts of issues, i.e., a lack of SACD or even slapping on a DVD-A layer or portion onto the disc. I called their customer service (long distance!) and was told that they had no information about who I could contact regarding this. B*st*rds.

So I guess I'm going to be ordering my box sets from Japan. It sucks, cos it'll probably be massively pricey. And as someone said over on the Genesis forum, if most people (the hardcore fans, I imagine) order from Japan, it'll look like there's no interest in North America, which means Warner might not bother giving us more choice Genesis stuff in the future.

Sigh. It's not easy being a Genesis fan . . .

Thanks for the update, Mike!

cheers,

Actually, a member at the G forum stated his preorder for the box set from Japan, was $100 US including shipping. That's not bad for 11 discs in a set!

As far as the US market being a different format, I don't think that will matter much. It's us audiophiles that are going to be importing them. The general public will pick up the ones here, and honestly at least they won't need special equipment to play them.

Can you post info on where to order the Japanese imports (web site, etc)? I'd love to get some or all of these titles on SACD. Just thinking about Squonk or Watcher of the Skies on 5.1 channel gives me goosebumps!

"The Knife" should be pretty cool too. Not to mention "Supper's Ready" and "Los Endos"! Not to mention . . . ahhh, I could go on and on listing the songs I'm dying to hear!

Hey Mike, thanks for the $100 info! That IS a shiny price tag. I wonder if that's the pre-sale price. Hmmm . . . did he pre-order it from Japan's amazon site? Never mind, I'll go and take a look myself. But thanks for the heads-up.

Oh man, I'm drooling at the thought of finally hearing these 5.1s!

cheers,

Just a thought, Japan works out to be about $100 including shipping/taxes(?) Some of the sites don't have complete, or accurate information on what you're getting. The US sites show the box for $174. I'm sure these things will be fixed going forward.

Clicked on the first link you gave us, Mike, but I couldn't read much of it! Maybe I'll try to piggyback my order on someone else from the G forum, someone ordering from Canada, or better yet, Toronto.

Thanks for those links & info, Mike!

cheers,

EDIT: Oops, never mind! I see the "English" button now. I just might be moments within putting in pre-order right now!

EDIT #2: Oh boy oh boy oh boy I just pre-ordered it! It came to roughly $136 CND total. The wait until April is gonna be long one! :(

To any North Americans who are contemplating ordering the box set from Japan, and have held off cos they didn't know if the DVD would be NTSC or PAL . . .

I sent a message to hmv.co.jp, telling them that there was missing info on their page for the box set: region coding, and if it's NTSC or PAL. And they updated the page. The DVD is gonna be region 0 NTSC!!!

waa-hoo!!!

Hi all. Please excuse me for a dumb question. I have not listened to much of Genesis. I really like like 60s-70s music and I don't know how I missed Genesis. Which one of these new discs, if you had to choose one, would you recommend to a nyophyte? I am sure everyone will have their own opinion, but does one of these soon-to-be released albums stand out as an obvious choice?
Thanks.

maphiker, I think it would depend on what kind of music you like. For example, if you like prog music, you might like anything from Trespass (1970) up to Wind & Wuthering (1977). If you like pop music, you might prefer anything from Genesis (1982) to Calling All Stations (1997). The albums in between those time periods are sort of a bit of prog and a bit of pop. Although almost all their albums have at least a little of each on them.

My favourite Genesis "era" is the Steve Hackett era. He joined up on Nursery Cryme (1971) and his last studio album was Wind & Wuthering. Those are some awesome albums!

If I had to pick favourites, I'd go with Foxtrot (1972), Selling England by the Pound (1973), Trick of the Tail (1977) and Wind & Wuthering. There are individual songs on other albums that are stellar, and I love them to bits, but we're talking about the whole album, beginning to end. Sorry, I can't really pick just one.

cheers,

You can preorder the first five individually at Amazon.co.uk
I've sorted the link here

Just in case you don't want the box set.

Does anyone know what the 6th discs is in the box set? There are only 5 albums.

Anyway I'm in St. Catharines, so supervij if you were still looking for someone to piggyback, were you going to do box set or all 5 discs? I'm more inclined to order the discs I think at this point - an extra 20 pounds seems like a lot to pay for whatever that extra disc is.

I can enjoy Genesis from all eras.

dobyblue, I already sent in my order to HMV Japan for the box set. I think, at this point, HMV Japan is the least expensive option for North Americans. This could change at any time, of course, but for now, they're the ones with which to go. Not to mention that the DVDs will be NTSC region 0.

If you're so inclined, I could piggyback your order onto mine, but I don't know for certain if this would reduce the shipping charges any. Plus, of course, you'd have to find your way from St. Catherines to Toronto. PM me if you want to discuss it further.

Those tracks you indicated are not on any studio album, correct. Whether there are more, I'm uncertain. Probably Mike knows for sure.

Not Amazon Japan, but HMV Japan you should be looking at. http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2515278 Their price is 11,332 Yen, which equals $111.11 Canadian. And it's the only place (I think) that has NTSC region 0. Darn good price. I'd hop right on it if I hadn't already done so.

cheers,

Hey guys,

To answer the box set question, my understanding is that it will contain 12 disc. The extra audio disc is extra album cuts that didn't make the album due to space constraints. And I believe the other disc is a video dvd with more interviews etc.

Mike

PS Ordered mine @ HMV.Jp also. Can't wait!

Correct! Sorry I didn't see you point that out and submitted my post. Oh well, no big.

Oh, the next batch of discs due in June or July have some excellent extra tracks as well. Genesis certainly never had many duds, that's for sure.
