    Imaging ?

Fwiw some of the best imaging speakers I've ever heard were Onix Reference 1's. There's something about a small 2-way with relatively narrow baffles. Those little guys imaged spectacularly, and were absolutely beautiful to look at. Overall I didn't think I could live with the sound long term...

    Crossroads

According to an interview with Ry Cooder published in one of the guitar mags years back, he played Machio's parts. Via of course played all the parts that he appears to in the film. I haven't seen it in years, but I remember thinking it was okay. Jamie Gertz was pretty hot back in those...

    Why Not Studio Monitors?

In my mind that's the only real measure of accuracy we can apply to a speaker.

    Imaging ?

I agree that room treatment improves imaging a lot, and every other area of sound, too. While I can appreciate imaging it's not all that high on my list of audio "fetishes."

    Why Not Studio Monitors?

We're really wasting our time by being led down the garden path, here. There was a genuine question before this devolved into semantics. So as to that question, another reason studio monitors may not make ideal home speakers for everyone is that they don't include all the patterns generally...

    Why Not Studio Monitors?

What is accurate? I'd say so long as the parameters are listed all speakers are "accurate." The only meaningful way you could define the term in relation to a speaker is by comparing the output to the input vs the stated deviation (eg 20-20khz, +/- 1.0 dB). It's not realistic to say a speaker...

    Why Not Studio Monitors?

The mere point that perfect accuracy isn't possible doesn't obviate the need for studio monitors to be as accurate at possible. There's no reason why one couldn't enjoy a studio monitor as a home speaker, but they are designed with a different purpose in mind. Dispersion and, um, accuracy can...

Pioneer Elite receiver Vs. Denon receiver.

The 1803 is a fine receiver and a steal at what you paid for it, assuming everything works properly. Years ago I had an 1800 (equivalent model but much older) and it was amazing for the price I paid, something like $450-$500 back then. One great feature of the Denon is the ability to adjust...

    Elections

I'm old enough to remember when the other group of A-holes had the Congress. I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.

Thiel CS3.7 - best speakers for under $5K?

Of all the speakers on your list, the ones I'd most love to have would be the Salk Veracity HT3's. I lust for them in the worst way.

    Insignia NSB-2111 Bookshelf Speakers

I'm back in Sioux Falls tonite; when I moved to Watertown I neglected to register in whatever-the-hell-county I'm in now. So I had to come home to vote. So I stopped by Best Buy and looked at the Insignias. I must say I'm impressed by them. I didn't have the chance to listen to them tonite...

Beware, "White Van Speaker Scams" tis the season.

TAS seems to consider them absolutely SotA. They do certain things better than any other speakers they'd heard, according to one of their writers. They're definately not cheap, but if I could afford them I'd love to audition them.

Beware, "White Van Speaker Scams" tis the season.

Epiphany is legit and extremely high end. Sleestack owns a pair of them, I think. Danny Ritchie of GR Research is one of the designers.

Shame they don't have TAS. I like Home Theater, even Stereophile is occasionally amusing (and pretty cheap).

    Norh speakers

Yeah, I just remembered that & was going to post it. From a few guys that own/have owned them, the Prism's apparently aren't all that great, but the drums are supposed to be wonderful.

I also heard a rumor that they were going to be offering real marble again, not just the synthetic kind. That would be pretty cool.

Micheal Barnes makes his living off his computer company, NohrTech. The audio business is more of a sideline for him, and he doesn't have a huge staff. He's been a bit hard to reach as of late, and from what I hear thru the grapevine he's been extremely busy with the PC side (btw, they make...
