    DLP Projector (1080p?)

While that can work as an interim solution a screen will offer much higher performance. You will definately not get all you paid for from the PJ without a good screen. The problem with a painted wall is that your typical white paint isn't really a neutral white; it will not give you truly...

    DLP Projector (1080p?)

You're gonna have a hard time doing 1080P for $3k, I'm afraid. Closest I've seen is an open box Mits for $3500. Unless you go CRT- you can do 1080P with a CRT for that price, if you can accomodate the size & weight. Your digital PJ options are: 1) spend a bit more and get 1080, 2) wait and...

Bought "Prestige" on Blu-ray - WOW!

My copy is just plain ol' DVD, but the film is wonderful! It seems to me it was more worthy of an Oscar than The Departed.

Taco Bell: Dunno if it's a coincidence or what, but.

I think there are some misconceptions about food borne illness out there. While it's true that bad practices can lead to outbreaks, you can no more assume a return trip will make you sick than you could expect better odds in the Lotto by buying your ticket where the last winner bought his...

    Brotherhood of the Wolves

Yeah, a fantastic film. I wonder when it will be released in some High Def DVD format?

    Red Eye

This was a pleasant surprise for me, too. Cillian Murphy was amazing; while it may seem funny now, when I first saw the trailers I couldn't imagine him as a villain, having only seen him as a very convincing hero in "28 Days Later." Of course, he's gone on to make his mark as a wonderful...

You gotta admit biwiring looks freakin' cool!:D

Where's the best place to get a DLP lamp?

I'm no expert but I'd replace it with the same exact type of bulb it shipped with. You won't get a better picture with a different kind of bulb, and messing with it could void your warranty if you damage your display.

    Sanyo PLV-Z5, Panasonic PT-AX100U or Mitsubishi HD1000U

I agree with you BMXTRIX, with one caveat- some people are bothered by RBE. I am not, and I think the actual numbers are quite low (despite the whining and gnashing of teeth at AVS;) ), but it's best to try before you buy or buy from a vendor with a liberal return policy. I was handed my...

Sub bass extension gets extended to play lower and louder than before!

I dunno about the WAF of your theater room, though!:D Very creative- I'm curious to see how it works for you.

    Sanyo PLV-Z5, Panasonic PT-AX100U or Mitsubishi HD1000U

I was planning on buying a Mitsubishi HD1000U, but right now the HC3000U is under $1300! That complicates things a bit. The '3000U has no clear segment on the color wheel; it's not as bright as the '1000U but has better blacks and reportedly a bit better color. The '3000U was hailed as one of...

    Soundocity Outrigger Review

Wow, very nice indeed! I prefer the look of them to the (fairly nice but scuffed) plinths of my Monitor Audio GR20s! I might have to try them out. According to the website they have a plainer, "budget" version, too. That might be just the thing for my Monitor Audio Bronze 3's that have no...

    center speaker impact

Unfortunately, I couldn't use 3 identical ones in my current rig. My mains are Monitor Audio Gold Ref 20's, and they're too tall to use as a center. I did use a GR10 for a while before getting the GR Center.

    Sanyo PLV-Z5, Panasonic PT-AX100U or Mitsubishi HD1000U

In practical terms, the Sanyo will probably give you as good or better blacks due to it's Image AI. But this won't give you deeper blacks on every type of image; if you have darks and bright parts within the same frame the AI can't ratchet it down. FWIW I've heard a lot of bad things about...

    16:9 or 1.85:1 screens?

I think cropping a film is always a bad idea. After all, that's what "Full Screen" or "pan & scan" movies are. In cropping you always throw something away, usually something important!

    16:9 or 1.85:1 screens?

What you suggest would require scaling the image, which generally degrades the picture. A good scaler will harm the image less, but PJs will look best at their native resolution. The PJ won't "recognize" and adjust based on the aspect ratio of the material. You could get an electric masking...

    16:9 or 1.85:1 screens?

You can buy a screen in any imaginable aspect ration. Some PJs are capable of projecting in many aspect ratios. I would strongly advise you purchase a 16:9 (sometimes referred to as 1.78:1) unless you have the budget and know-how to use an anamorphic lense and create a CIH setup. True...

    Rebuttal from SVS

It's a shame things worked out the way they did, but AH & SVS are both fine companies and will both do just fine.:D
