Vote--"2007" Fanboy of the Year Award

Well, I've moved three times and relocated for work twice in the last year. That combined with returning to school has sorta taken all my time. Lucky for you I'm back.;)

Vote--"2007" Fanboy of the Year Award

Yeah, but it's gonna be awhile.:( It would figure...I start out with Bronze's, then I save up and get Silvers, then they come out with the Gold Refs. After finally completing my entire GR setup (GR20's, GR10's & GR Center) they finally come out with Platinum. If by some chance I can ever...

Prediction: Blu ray blows away HD DVD in 2008

Even Sony is admitting Bluray isn't likely to get the kind of big win they'd hoped for.

Vote--"2007" Fanboy of the Year Award

Geez, I didn't get a single nom for my relentless flogging of Monitor Audio and Hsu Research? I haven't been hanging out here enough lately!:D

should I buy a HC3000 for closeout price of $799? or buy a HD70 or another model?

That's a great projector and a great deal- even though it's a little older its' still quite competitive. The only issue I could see is the offset. You mentioned your HT is a basement, and often this means a low ceiling. Depending on how high you mount the screen you may not make it fit...

    VMPS speakers?

That ain't no little woofer- it's a carbon fiber 6.5" woofer. Those 626r's pump out pretty respectable bass. The woofer only looks small because the 626 is really big for a "bookshelf" speaker.

    Temporary Retirement from AH

Hopefully the time wasn't completely wasted. My brother is in a similar situation- his first couple semesters he did okay, but this last semester he had a lot of personal issues/distractions to deal with, including work. He ended up pretty much screwing the pooch- failing a couple and dropping...

    Temporary Retirement from AH

Best wishes, Seth. Life has gotten in the way for me, too. You've probably all noticed I'm not here as often as I used to be. I try to pop in and take care of any business that needs done, moderation-wise, but I've changed jobs a few times and moved for work a few times, all in the last year...

    Optoma H31 Projector

Very nice PJ. I'm still using one, in fact...although its days are numbered. It works great but I'm planning to buy a 720p model to replace it.

    FS: Denon AVR-2805 Silver

Tempting!:D But I'm pretty well covered with my current bedroom rig: NAD C320BEE fed by a Stereo-Link USB DAC driving Monitor Audio Gold Ref 10's. If I replace the NAD it'll be with an Onix Melody SP3 (like I used to have and foolishly sold!) or a Jolida integrated.

    FS: Denon AVR-2805 Silver

Bump to ask you what you're replacing it with. I have a 3805 and am pretty happy with it. Very fair price, though.

$499 DVD projector, anybody seen it?

I haven't personally seen one, but what I've read doesn't make me optimistic. First, it uses a 6" or 7" LCD panel from a portable DVD player with the bulb behind it. The screenshots don't look good, either- that isn't ironclad evidence as screenshots often don't do justice to a picture...

    svs vs hsu vs klipsch

The tube shaped Hsu subs are no longer available. It's a box or nothing if you want a Hsu now.

I made a huge mistake. I listened to some Wilson Audio speakers...

Few could match the woodworking skills of Jim Salk! I'm curious to see how he plans to top the HT3 with his new flagship model (when it comes out).

    Commercials

Commercials are the main reason I all but quit watching TV a couple years ago. Occasionally I'll watch some HDTV at my brothers place; he gets all the geek ones, Science Channel, Discover HD, etc. And I often watch football with him since he has a really nice 46" LCD HDTV. But I myself...

    LS6 and LS9

I think they're 8 ohm, don't recall exactly. Danny Ritchie (the designer) says the're pretty efficient and will work well with amps of 50 Wpc or better. A line array has a higher perceived "signal to noise" ratio than more conventional topologies; they're sound louder at a given measured...

    OMG was that challenging!!

Organization is the key! The first thing I do is make labels to put on each end of the cables. My gear rack has a semi-enclosed back so space is tight, and it's dark in addition to being cramped. It's so much easier if you label stuff to keep it straight. Congrats- it's a pain to connect a...
