    WTF Hector!

Spiders eat a lot of insects, so they don't much bother me. Obviously I'm not happy if one runs across my foot or hops on my pillow, but generally I leave them alone and they leave me alone. I'd rather have a dozen spiders in my house than even one milllipede!

    Done and done.

Sounds like you put together a system you should enjoy for a long time to come.

    DIY Acoustic Panels. My way!

Very nice work! Quite professional looking. DIY doesn't normally look as sharp! BTW, you have an $800 washing machine and bit&h about a few hundred bucks for acoustic treatments?;):D

    Monitor Audio RS6 impedence...Need advice.

They are a benign load. Your reciever will have no trouble with them.

A Sad Day for the Good Old Boob-Tube!

Hey, I also love LCD monitors! So don't think I'm bashing 'em. But to compare a really nice higher end LCD with a real el cheapo CRT doesn't tell the whole story, especially if neither are calibrated. Adjust the gamma and do a basic calibration and your "cheapo" CRT might really surprise you...

A Sad Day for the Good Old Boob-Tube!

Plasma is a bit akin to CRT in a way. I've never seen a plasma set I could live with long term, though- there are a few artifacts that bug me (false contouring is evident in almost every plasma set I've ever seen, but I quit looking a year ago, so they've probably gotten better).

A Sad Day for the Good Old Boob-Tube!

That was a bit of a joke. But there's a kernel of truth to it- as much as I like my ViewSonic it can't do very black black. I occasionally use it to watch DVDs and its shortcomings are pretty obvious. No fixed pixel display that I've seen can even approach CRT for black levels, although...

    Anyone Listen to Soundtracks?

I would absolutely have to recommend any and every soundtrack by Thomas Newman. His work includes the wonderful soundtracks to Road To Perdition, Meet Joe Black, Cinderella Man, American Beauty and The Green Mile. Along with Danny Elfman, he's among my all-time favorite film music composers...

A Sad Day for the Good Old Boob-Tube!

I will readily admit to being hopelessly out of date. And I would hate to give up my ViewSonic computer monitor. One funny thing I notice, though- if I look at screen shots taken from peoples HT systems their black levels never look very good on my monitor. Of course, if I'm browsing at work...

A Sad Day for the Good Old Boob-Tube!

While flat screens are getting much better (I'm using a 19" ViewSonic LCD at my PC right now) unless something's changed recently you won't find any of them in use in professional CAD applications and the like. CRT is still the king where price is no object and quality is the only concern...

    Star Trek opinion

Star Trek TNG was undoubtedly my favorite, and I have all 7 seasons on DVD.:D Piquard would undoubtedly whip Kirks arse with one hand tied behind his back. Make it so, dammit!:D My favorites of the rest, in order: 2) Voyager- hated Janeway but liked the rest of the cast. Great Borg &...

My new projector HT room is done

Very nice, but it would be much better if you could find a way to ceiling mount the PJ. I see at least one light fixure would have to be changed, but the best seat in the house wouldn't be occupied by the projector!:D

FS: 8th Nerve Acoustic Treatments, Adapt & Response

This in an interest check- I'm going to be trying some RealTraps acoustic treatments, and so I'm contemplating taking the leap of faith and selling my 8th Nerve stuff off. I've found it to be maximally effective with minimal size, but curiosity has gotten the better of me and I'm going...

    Pretty Small Room

The AV123 stuff is nice. I owned one pair of their Onix REF-1 speakers and found them to be extraordinarily well made for the price. It's hard to imagine how you could go wrong with the XLS stuff. As a Monitor Audio fanboy I also have to point out that the Bronze B line is a screaming...

    Powered Cylinder SUBS??

A cylinder has several advantages. First, the shape is very efficient- a box will want to flex under pressure, essentially trying to bow out into a cylinder. Since the walls of a tube are already in the most "efficient" shape there's nowhere for them to expand to. A tube will then be very...

    SMS-1 EQ pic

The BFD is a very potent and useful parametric EQ, but it's not intuitive to use and the manual is horrible. But once you get the hang of it you can do amazing things for the quality of your bass. It only has XLR and TRS inputs but that's no problem- cables with RCA on one hand and XLR or TRS...

    Pretty Small Room

It all depends on what you want to do. If as you say it's about 1/2 gaming, and further assuming you game on a PS3, Xbox 360 or Xbox, then I strongly advise 5.1 and as much acoustic treatment as you can afford and/or fit into the room on a practical basis. The immersion factor of gaming in MC...

Jack Kervorkian out of the joint.

The philosopher ARTHUR SCHOPENHAUER wrote on the subject of suicide "That anyone who no longer wishes to live for himself must go on living merely as a machine for others to use is an extravagant demand." I could put it no better. If I no longer wish to live for myself, why should anyone's...

The amp of your dreams...what would it be?

My Dream Amp is also not all that outlandish- a Moscode 401HR would do me. Some Edge monoblocks would also be in the running. Lastly, if I had a Butler TDB-2250 I'd probably never feel much need to upgrade (I have a TDB-3150 now and love it dearly:D). I also would love to have a pair of ASL...
