    buying new receiver this weekend!!!!!

Admittedly I'm a Denon fanboy so take this with a grain of salt, but I'd go with the 3808. From what I've see there's not much that can top it in that price range.

Why doesn't NAD get mentioned here more often?

I have an NAD C 320BEE in my computer rig and really like it. At the moment my PC rig is as follows: PC, Stereo-Link USB DAC, C 320BEE, Monitor Audo Gold Ref 10's (normally in my HT rig but I'm staying with my sister right now so they're in my PC rig d/t space concerns). I love the tone...

The main reason I don't spend more time at AK is that they're really focused on vintage gear. I don't have a problem with it, I'm just not real interested in kabuki speakers an 70's Japanese hi power receivers. The community is great, with lots of friendly, helpful people. It's neat place and...

    Buying Used

That sucks. Still, I've bought & sold lots of gear and have had very very few problems. I sold a tubed integrated amp once only to hear from the seller that one input didn't work. Everything else worked except that one; I couldn't say if it worked when I sold it or not, I'd only ever used it...

James Randi and Fremer of Stereophile to test

I've always admired James Randi, but in this case Fremer has a valid point- as a condition of the test, Randi says that Fremer winning the challenge will be evidence of paranormal powers! Fremer is a bit of a flake but doesn't think hearing cable differences is paranormal at all; he thinks...

I don't have a lot of posts at AK but I've found the site to be friendly and well run. I've also never had to pay to register or post. Speakerlust, it's not about "taking sides" against you; it's that AH has a longstanding rule against "dirty laundry." We don't want to get dragged into...

    360 Failure rate approaching 33%?

Another bit of anecdotal "evidence"- my brother, a die-hard Xbox and 360 fanboy, has had three Xbox 360's and every one had died!

Screen technology in the last 12 years

The material should work just fine- there have been advances but an older screen can still perform well. I would suggest that if you're handy with tools creating a frame and using the material to build a 1.78:1 screen would be a good idea. The RS1 has a phenomenal contrast ratio but will still...

    The Worst Beer List

Yeah, sad thing is that a few of the beers in that sampler are really superb but not otherwise available in SD. Stock Ale is generally unavailable here and is in my top 10 beers. I like the Scotch Ale, too. But the Honey Lager, Summerfest & Lambic are only fit to unclog drains. Note to Sam...

    The Worst Beer List

The worst "good" beer I've ever had has to be Sam Adam's Cranberry Lambic. Simply horrific! Imagine taking a bottle of beer, pouring in a shot of Ocean Spray, then whisking in a couple TBSP of sour cream- that's pretty close to what it tasted like.

    The Worst Beer List

God, I love Guiness! The Draught stuff is best, but I like both. Murphy's Pub Stout is slightly better, IMO. There's nothing much better than a Black & Tan made with Murphy's and Bass Ale.:D The list is pretty silly, IMO. While I'm not a big fan of Bud Lite, I think there are plenty of...

    Vincerò! Vincerò!

I'm not sure if you guys have seen this yet, but if not check it out. A crappy Brit-Idol-knockoff show just featured a pretty amazing performance. The guy is a cell phone salesman named Paul Potts, but just listen to him blow the lid off "Nessun Dorma" from Puccini's Turandot!

    WTF Hector!

Yeah, Jamie put his arm is a cage with a zillion of them. They later talked to a spider expert who said the whole "they're very poisonous" thing is urban legend.

    WTF Hector!

Well obviously I would make an exception for spiders whos bite is lethal to humans! But a daddy-long-legs is nothing to get worked up about.

20 Albums You Should Own, But Probably Don't

I love that Cantus disc. I've been fortunate to hear them perform a couple times in the same venue where that recording was made. Very impressive each time!
