I might need to purchase a $3000+ BOSE HTIB!!! Someone please stop me!

Definitely check out the Orbs. I got them for a second system, and they come much closer to my main system than I expected. Since WAF is a priority, I suggest Orbs over a small monitor. The monitors still need stands and aren't going to disappear (sonically and visually) as well as the Orbs...

The Best Speakers you've ever heard

Full Range: I'd have to say the mbl 101. Also a pair of Duntechs that I heard in a mastering room. Honorable mention would be anything from Magnepan, Vandersteen, and Ohm. Monitor: PMC AML2, Focal Solo6 Be, Dynaudio Air 15 Favorite sub/sat (I'm making up my own category): Orbs...

2010 Audioholics $1k Floorstanding Loudspeaker Faceoff

Thanks Gene, for putting on the $1K speaker review. I know it's hard to do, but I hope you do more of them. Sholling brings up some interesting points, which is why I've had problems with professional reviews. I used read a great review, then hear the product and get very confused. You...

Floorstanding speakers: Aperion 5t, Klipsh wf 34, DT bp6

Out of the 3 I'd pick Def Tech. I heard Aperions at a show once, and didn't like them at all. The only Klipsch that I like are the old originals... Def Techs are pretty nice speakers - it really depends on your tastes.

I'm So Excited - Song Towers Almost Ready

Very nice - definitely would like to hear about an A/B comparison, once they settle into your system. What speakers are you running now?

    perfect balance of quality/quantity?

If you want quality and volume, check out some powered monitors with the amps built into the speakers. For under $10k you can hook up with some Focal, PMC or Dynaudio monitors and subs, and have more than enough volume. You'll definitely get that live impact, that you cannot get with <$1K...

Speaker design for filling a large room with equally pleasing sound?

A great speaker with a big sweet spot are the Ohm Walsh series speakers. They're not quite omni-directional, but their unique design projects seamless sound into a room unlike any conventional speakers. ohmspeakers.com If your interested, give them a call. John, the designer will give...

    Notes from auditioning speakers

That was a great summary of your audition! It was interesting to hear that the Vandersteens were brighter than the other speakers, because I've heard many of their floorstanders, and they're always very, very smooth. I haven't heard the monitors, but what makes Vandersteens distinctive is...

Internet Direct Speaker Recommendations for 2 channel and Home Theater

I really like my Ohms. I've had a pair of MicroWalshes for 4 years, and I still think they sound amazing. I'm running mine with a little 70W integtrated in a 12x20 room, with lots of power to spare. The Ohms are easy to place, and easy to drive - incredible speakers for two channel HT and...

    Realistic Break-in

As much as I give these guys a hard time about amps sounding different, I do think that most people's ears break in more than speaker's drivers do...

Do some amps have a warmer sound than others?

First off, an amp can make audible differences with your speakers - my only question is, how do you characterize your speakers as being accurate? A lot of speakers are far from being accurate, especially those which mess with the time domain, but that's a different thread... I've heard...

    Favorite Instrument To Listen To

Drums can be fun on a great system. I heard this recording: http://store.acousticsounds.com/browse_detail.cfm?title_ID=9409 Mark Levinson demonstrated these pieces on one of his big systems for me a few years ago - I was pretty blown away. A must recording for percussion -recording...

River Cables StarFlex SPX speaker cable vs. Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables

I've often wondered the same thing. If it is Canare in a fancy (and IMO ugly) jacket - then obviously they're WAY overpriced. This is why I like BJC, they tell you exactly what you're getting...
