    new power amp

I'd stick with Parasound - Their John Curl designed gear is great. The only other option I'd consider would be Bryston - but they're much more expensive, and I'm not sure if they're worth the extra expense. The A21 will go great with your JC2.

    Visit to ATC loudspeakers

Great pics - looks like you had a great time. ATC speakers are definitely one of the best, After your next tour with PMC, look up Harbeth! Many great, small speaker companies in the UK!

Need help in finding warm sounding receiver to pair with Paradigm Monitors

Lose the 'digms... As mentioned, the receiver will not make a difference - you will not find a warm receiver. Paradigms are not "accurate", no surprise that they're bright - that's a common adjective to describe Paradigms...

    Netflix DVD-by-Mail Becomes Quickster

This whole thing is a mess. If I end up keeping anything, I think I'm going to go stream only with Netflix. I didn't rent very many movies from them - ironically I'll be keeping a service that I complained about recently. I never had a problem with their rental service, but the new streaming...

Replacing old stereo receiver in NYC apt

I'm not sure of your overall budget, or what speakers you have, but I'd definitely suggest a nice simple integrated amp or stereo receiver and a pair of bookshelf speakers. If neighbors are a factor, then a sub is probably not going to happen. You don't need an unnecessarily busy/complicated...

    GAF/Small Form Factor Speakers.

Sheep - definitely relationships are full of compromises... If you want to stick with H/T, Orbs are really nice sounding speakers. Just to be different, and in the spirit of compromise, you can also move to 2 channel, this way you lose the big receiver, and extra speakers. You can stretch...

Vandersteen 7, 5a and 1st order XO's, Bunch of Response questions.... etc.

I was into time coherent speakers for a while (Meadowlark, Vandersteen, Sequerra, etc.). It makes sense on paper to not disturb the time domain, but in reality, a higher order crossover, flat baffle design can achieve the same sound. One thing I did notice with those speakers was a natural...

mcintosh ma-6500 or combo (mc-162 amp with c-15 preamp)

The MA6500 is a great integrated. The separates look interesting - might be more flexible... Are they the same age?

    speaker burn in

When a reviewer says that the speakers sounded terrible at first, then they let the speakers burn-in to get them to sound right - the review loses all credibility for me. As long as the speakers are stabilized at room temperature there shouldn't be a problem... If something doesn't sound...

    Best speakers for classical music

Xytech - that's a good list to choose from. IMO, go for the ATC's and if you need to, add a good sub later. How big is your room? I had the model one below the psb's - they were nice enough. I'm seeing positive responses to their specs, but I'd hardly call them accurate or uncolored. I...

    Best speakers for classical music

I'm not sure what they cost where you live - but Harbeth P3's. Incredible speakers with any music - definitely great with classical. Harbeths do not require uber amps, and their designer doesn't believe in going crazy in this area. The P3's are super easy to drive, never going below 6...

    brystob3bsst2 or anthem statement a2

I wouldn't go on what one reviewer says about the Bryston's "sibilance". They are incredible amplifiers and if you go with one, will bring you years and years of world class performance. I would like to know if he level matched the amps when listening to them, and A/B'd them at the same time...

    Discovering 2-Channel

I run 2 channel for music and movies - I like the simplicity, on many levels. I've found that a really great pair of speakers can get you deep into the mix of film (including dialogue, even without a ctr channel).

Looking for new speakers: advice needed

If they're available where you are, I'd suggest a pair of Harbeth P3ESR's. They're popular with Naim owners. I prefer them ove Proac - haven't heard Audio Note, so I can't comment...

    Your first stereo

My first set-up was in college - 1986/87: Sony Discman D-50 CD player, JVC turntable/Grado Cartridge --> Yamaha RX-300U receiver --> Boston Acoustics A70 mkII speakers. Not a bad little system, I used it for almost 10 years (had to replace the portable CD player with a Denon) - would...

    Green Mountain Audio Europas

I agree on having some specs to help communicate how a speakers sounds (there's a dip at 3k, a mid-bass bump, or the bass rolls off at 50hz...). There's a lot of reviewer drivel to sift through - especially if talking about amps and CD players - it happens with speakers too. But I disagree...

    Green Mountain Audio Europas

I really enjoyed the Ohms for the last six years - I still highly recommend them!! They were just too much for the room. We switched to a new listening room and the Ohms just didn't sound as good. Too much bass, and the new room is a little livelier. I'm really into being careful with using...

    Green Mountain Audio Europas

KEW - I'm using Harbeths now. I had a pair of Ohm MicroWalsh Talls for a few years, which was my first departure from true time coherent types. I never saw a step response on the Ohms, but from what I gather, they were pretty darn close to time coherent - very simple 1st order crossover, which...
