Absolutely. I always test at 192khz and get better results on product that doesn't Downsample to 48khz. They can do better.

100% agreed. Last Gen upmixers from Dolby and DTS were better at upmixing 7.1 than the Immersive ones. Less artifacting too from my experience.

Yep I fought to get Dolby "Center Spread" back on Denon/Marantz receivers and they did for 2020 and newer. Make sure you enable it for 2CH music Upmixing.

The reality is Auro has no content. If you want to use the upmixer, that's cool. I'm not a fan of Dolby business practices but they are the UHD and streaming standard for Immersive Audio and that isn't changing anytime soon.

Yep, if Auro was so great, more professionals like Anthony Grimani, David Frangioni, etc would be installing Auro theaters, selecting the core Dolby track and bypassing Atmos, and upmixing to Auro. They aren't! It reeks of an act of desperation or just willful ignorance.
