How about some UNDERPRICED speaker recommendations?

I second Infinity Primus. Excellent value in their price range. Higher in both price and performance, but still excellent value, are the B&W 600 series. (FWIW I think the performance/price curve "flattens out" much faster for electronics than for speakers.)

onix x-ls vs. Infinty primus 150

I have to agreee with that. They are good speakers for the price all around, but imaging is their strong suit. I didn't hear better imaging until I started listening to significantly more expensive speakers.

    A vs. B

The price you listed for the Monitor 50s should be per pair, not each.

Best sounding speakers you have ever listen to..

Good choice. The old A series were great speakers for the $. They used an acoustic suspension (sealed) design for detailed bass and soft-dome tweeters for smooth highs. Why Boston switched to ports and metal domes in their newer models, I will never understand.

    Bat Out Of Hell 3

I still like the original, and II was decent. I really didn't like III at all.:(

Best sounding speakers you have ever listen to..

I ran across a store that carried them once while travelling, and was extremely impressed with the sound. Dealers are few and far-between, though. Also quite expensive. (If I remember correctly, I was on my way to see the Wright Brothers launch site, so the store must have been in North Carolina.)

Best sounding speakers you have ever listen to..

Obviously, the 802s have much more powerful and extended bass, will play much louder without strain, and will fill a much larger room. When the comparison is done between the 802s and 705s, each placed in a room of appropriate size for that speaker, and both played at moderate volume (I hate...

Best sounding speakers you have ever listen to..

That would be either the B&W 802s (which don't actually sound that much better than the 705s, which was my point) or the Shahinian Obelisks. These are hard to compare directly, as they are quite different. (The Obelisks are omnipolar.)

Best sounding speakers you have ever listen to..

While I agree with the high-end B&Ws sounding awesome, I don't think it is neccessary to go that far up the line to get there, especially in a smallish room. I have only rarely heard speakers that sound better to me than my B&W 705s.

    Editorial: Convenient Explanations

I'm with you. I use my TV exclusively for watching DVDs, and then only about 1.5 hours per night. (I do occasionally watch TV programs recorded on DVD, if they are good ones, but haven't seen an actual broadcast in over 10 years.)

What stereo speakers for a HUGE room?

The Klipsch Heritage line, including Klipsshorns and Heresies, are designed to sound geat in really huge rooms. (IMO they are too bright in smaller rooms.)

    Flyboys

I was going to make my own comment, but you pretty much summed it up. Second the recommendation.

Floorstanders or Bookshelf for small living room area?

Unfotunately, 602.5 is a bit of a misnomer. The name implies that it is a floorstanding 602, when it is really a floorstanding 601. The 602 has a larger woofer (and sounds better to me overall than the 602.5)

Floorstanders or Bookshelf for small living room area?

My room is about the same size as yours (also partly open on one side), and bookshelf speakers fill it with sound quite nicely.

    Aperion Audio Intimus 532 vs. Axiom's M3 v2???

Isn't "real veneer" an oxymoron, like "jumbo shrimp" or "military intelligence"?:p

    Aperion Audio Intimus 532 vs. Axiom's M3 v2???

You will have to find a local dealer. They are not sold on the internet. They are great speakers, though, and worth the effort to audition.

    Bookshelves under $250

I brought home a pair of the Insignias once, because they were so cheap and some have claimed they sound good. They did sound good for maybe half an hour, before I adjusted enough to start identifying all the distortion they were putting out. Fatigue set in soon after, so they went back to the...

    Bookshelves under $250

While I have speakers I am very happy with and am unlikely to replace (and much pricier than we are discussing here), I still like to buy budget speakers and listen to them now and then. I guess that's why it is called a hobby.:D Anyway, the X-LS are on my list to try, as I have read so many...
