    Which day for biggest savings?

I wouldn't have thought of that. I guess it makes sense, though, since people who care about football are a major market for big TVs. When is the Superbowl?

Divorce is one many things that causes GW

Another thing that contributes to GW is the hot air spewed by politicians, especially in a major election year.:)

    Which day for biggest savings?

By Xmas, I will have saved enough for a 42" plasma. There are four days when sale prices are likely: Xmas day, New Year's day, and the day after each of these. On which of those four days should the lowest price be available?

Usher Audio Be-718 Tiny Dancer Speaker Review

I have totally fallen in love with the sound of my Mirage Omni 150s. Since I like change for its own sake, I will eventually get something else, but these will be my mains for a long time. They cost me $140. Given this, there is precisely zero possibility that I could ever justify spending $2700...

    Skinwalkers: 100% BASS, 0% Story & Effects

Since bass is not even one of my criteria for movies, I will avoid this one. Thanks for the warning.

An article I found on the web about audiophiles and MP3s

As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle. One can certainly get something that is audibly superior to an entry-level system, but there is also a point at which any further "improvements" are beyond the ability of the human ear to detect. This point occurs well before reaching the "$10,000...

    RF-82s ????

Same as all the speakers I have tried in my 2-channel setup: A Carver CM-1090.

    Vibration dampening: Snake Oil?

Massive amounts of vibration could have an effect. Ordinary levels of vibration cannot.

Nothing like your vehicle refusing to start.....

That happened to me once, but when I tried my duplicate key, it worked. Haven't had it happen again since (about 2 years now.)

    About a foot of snow

So far, this has been one of the mildest winters I have seen here in OKC. (That could change in a hurry, though.)

20 years of hilarious Mike Tyson quotes.

He hit his wife. Can you imagine a guy that size hitting a woman! After that, nothing about him is funny to me.

    RF-82s ????

I made the mistake of buying RB-61s once. After a few days, the brightness and harshness became intolerable, and I had to get rid of them. Now I can't stand listening to any Klipsch.:(

    Rated bass vs. actual bass

It gets the idea across well enough. The FR graphs I have seen resemble your first example far more than the second. (I wish such graphs were available for a much broader range of speakers, though, as they are far more informative than specs alone.)

    "Image" is everything

The only time I ever care about pictures of speakers is if the speakers in question are very exotic-looking. I really don't see why people bother posting them. Besides, those who want pictures only need the brand/model, as almost all manufacturers have websites with pictures.

2 Questions: Center channel necessary, and tower vs bookshelf for midbass

I have found that I prefer not using a center speaker. The acoustic environment of a speaker on top of the TV is enough different that that of the mains that phantom center creates the illusion of the front 3 being more perfectly matched than is possible in reality. I also hear the dialog more...

B&W Zeppelin Speaker System for iPod Review

Maybe in theory, but people who buy ipods are rarely the same people who care enough about sound to do that (or to benefit from an "audiophile" accessory, for that matter.)

    Rated bass vs. actual bass

After doing a more extensive A/B/C comparison between the Polks, Miages, and KRKs this weekend, I have decided to keep the Mirages as my mains for now. When turned up, they have more bass than I originally thought. They sound quite accurate (very lifelike tones.) They are a bit short on dynamic...

    Rated bass vs. actual bass

The Mirage speakers that prompted me to start this thread are very inefficient (only 87dB/w/m.) This seems to be a common characteristic of very small speakers that have (or claim to have) impressive bass extension for their size. Fortunately, I am driving them with a beast of an integrated amp...

    Rated bass vs. actual bass

In other words, the specs are useless. This means that those shopping for speakers online have basically nothing to go on, especially if they are looking for small speakers with good bass.:( I enjoy the Mirages for what they are, but I feel that their bass specs were misleading. Based on the...
