I wouldn't have believed it, but...

Ah, OK. The obvious difference is that, because speakers vibrate, there is a reason that speaker stands could (at least in theory) make a difference. By contrast, there is no mechanism whatsoever that could allow a reciever stand to make a difference.

I wouldn't have believed it, but...

Then I am clearly missing something. I tried and failed to find some sort of sarcastic interpretation.

I wouldn't have believed it, but...

Not sure where this question came from (I was discussing speaker stands.) My CD player and integrated amp are stacked on the floor, with no rack.

I wouldn't have believed it, but...

If so, I will have to avoid mentioning this sort of thing to her, or she will flee in terror!

I wouldn't have believed it, but...

...I actually hear a difference between two pairs of speaker stands. I own nice stands by Plateau and cheaper ones by Omnimount for my S30s (long story.) The Plateaus are quite obviously heavier and more stable. The speakers also sound better on them (especially the bass.) If I hadn't...

Anyone here have a Panasonic microwave?

When it first started happening, I had maintenance come and check out the electrical system. They couldn't find anything wrong, but replaced the outlet as a precaution. It didn't help. (I also tried it in other rooms. It throws whichever breaker it happens to be on.)

Anyone here have a Panasonic microwave?

I can't remember the brand on my microwave. What I do know is that I can use it at most once per day. Attempting to use it twice in a day will throw a breaker, every time. Full power is the only option, because a lower setting makes it cycle on and off, which throws the breaker.

    Have I been stood up?

A couple of good, sustained email conversations. One seems close to becoming a real date.

    B&W 704 vs. SVS MTS-01

Interesting. The exact, diametric opposite of my experience. I felt that going from 600s to 700s was a total waste of money, and would recommend the 600s to anyone looking at B&W.

    Trance Dance

A somewhat obscure electronic CD that I have always liked is Colorform by Higher Intelligence Agency.

Looking for a CD with good drums

Recent discovery: Stanton Moore III. Classified as "jazz" but really much more rock. This guy doesn't just play the drums, he plays the hell out of the drums!

    B&W 704 vs. SVS MTS-01

As far as B&W is concerned, I think that the 600 series offers substantially better value for money than the 700 series. I made the mistake of "upgrading" from 602s to 705s, and no way was it worth the $900 price difference.

What are your top 3 choices for shielded bookshelf speakers?

Good advice, but nearly impossible to follow. Opportunities to audition have become rare these days. For the majority of brands/models it has become necessary to follow the ID model (buy/try/return) if you want to hear them.

    Supreme Court & Second Amendment

Can't deny that. Guns make killing a lot easier, though. You see a lot of school kids shooting and killing a bunch of their classmates at once these days. How many would they have been able to take down with a knife?

help me choose a budget speaker

Is Saturday Audio reliable? I know they have some good deals, but their website has a shady, "white van" feel to it.

    is it worth it?

He was talking about buying them from a friend, not a company.
