Well, I had the V1600. Terrible receiver. It sounded good, but I couldn't get anything to work with it. HDMI handshakes and then drops it, on cable boxes, my PS3, my DVD player. A 2807 I borrowed for a day, which sold for the same price as the V1600 had none of these issues.

I'd go with the Denon simply because Yamaha tends to have issues with HDMI. Denon has been really good with HDMI since they started using them.

Whaaaaa!! Dude! Your player decodes True HD. Set it to PCM and let the player do the decoding. Your receiver will accept 5.1 PCM via HDMI and you can hear the track in all its glory.

I read that the remote lacks the button for extended surround, and the receiver does not remember your 7.1 setting and every time you turn it off and on, you have to go back into the menu to activate it. That's rather dissapointing if true.

I'm reading about the receiver not remembering 7.1 surround settings. Is this an early model issue or is it still a problem. If so, what are you doing to make life easier with a 7.1 system? Thx.

That looks really really expensive. I'm looking for something around $50-60. It's only for my projector. I have a power conditioner for my other equipment. Right now, I'm using a 2600 joule Belkin surge protector on my Projector but it doesn't have backup.

I know the 661 can, but it doesn't upscale component to HDMI, which means I'll need to order another 35ft cable. And the price on the 1600 is cheaper than a new 661.

I don't think there's a noticable difference between the two, but Id rather take the 50gb disc than 30gb. I think consumers would more likely flock to a disc that's 8cm or so and offers 50gb-100gb. That would be cool.
