I think he means a harsh high end. Having heard the 2808, I don't see how that's possible. It's a very neutral/slight warmish sounding receiver.

Soon meaning June 2008. Still a long while. The receiver I'd recommend is Denon 788 or 1908 for the budget connoisseur. It's got good power, ZERO issues and accepts 7.1 via HDMI 1.3. It sounds great for music and HT. The Yamaha V661 is a great one as well with awesome reliability.

Trust me, wait for the S10.3 to go on sale or try to get a better deal. The 8.3 is nice, but the 10.3 is worth it. i have seen the S10 go on sale for around $400 and less sometimes.

I own the 6060 (661) and having tried both, regret getting the 661 instead. However, the 6060 does have preouts which I need, the 1908 does not.

The 1908 is a good receiver. Flawless 1080p video + audio performance. It sounds better than the Yamaha 661 - its direct competitor.
