Athena new LS speaker line. Verdict?

Looks like Athena replaced the AS line with the LS. These speakers look a lot like Energy speakers I've seen and I wouldn't doubt they use the same drivers. Anyways, what's the verdict on these speakers? They've been available at Future Shop in Canada for a few months now.

    Which blu-ray codec?

Kingdom of Heaven, Flyboys, The Covenant, Blackhawk Down, and the best of all - Crank. Crank is the sharpest HD picture I've ever seen. These are all 4.5/5 in terms of picture. A few have received perfect scores. Oh, check this thread out...

New Sanyo Z3 or used AE700u projector?

I'm sort of in a dillema. There's an online Canadian store that's selling a new Z3 with waranty + 92" screen for $897can+ tax = $1022. I have however found a Panasonic AE700u with low hours for $950can. I think the Panasonic is a slightly better projector, but a new projector with Waranty...

    Which blu-ray codec?

Umm, some of Blu-ray's best releases are Mpeg-2. But Sony has now abandoned Mpeg-2 for Mpeg-4 AVC. Their last 4 releases have all been AVC. They will only use Mpeg-2 for concerts and such for the time being.

    Sony's $599 1080/24p Blu-ray player this summer.

Don't get me wrong, I love the PS3, but I've been itching for a standalone for a long time. I didn't expect a full blown 1080p machine at that price point from Sony. Many thanks for that.

    Sony's $599 1080/24p Blu-ray player this summer.

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/products/gear/2007-02-26-blu-ray-cheaper_x.htm Cool! I've been laying off the format war until I bought a PS3 and now I've been buying Blu-rays like crazy. I wish there was a cheaper standalone so I can put my PS3 for gaming duties only. And now there will be...

WTB: Sanyo Z3 or Panasonic AE700U

My Z3 is done! I made a mistake of buying one with high hours and it has been nothing but problems. I've spent enough trying to fix it. So I'm looking for preferably a AE700u and will even consider another Z3 if the hours are low (less than 1000). I'm saving up for a 1080p, but I need...

Bought "Prestige" on Blu-ray - WOW!

I've seen this movie in the theaters and I wanted get this one of Blu-ray. I picked it up this morning from Walmart, and WOW is all I can say. The picture is fantastic and the audio is crystal clear. It's not an audio showcase title, but the dialog is pristene.

Blu-Ray Declares itself HD format winner!

I'm on the fence. But I saw Blackhawk Down the other day and it blew me away (audiowise mainly). I saw Batman Begins with the True HD track but this was something else. I then learned that virtually every single Blu-ray exclusive movie has Lossless sound. On the HD DVD side, there's...

Star Wars soundtrack true or false?

Here's what I want: 2004 DVD Trilogy remastered in 1080p with Dolby True HD 7.1 on 50gb Blu-ray discs. 4 disc set. 1 disc per movie and a 4th for extras in HD. I would kill to have this set.

Trading Yamaha 5960 for RXV1500. Good deal?

There's a person locally who wants to trade my 5960 for his v1500. The 1500 is a year older than my 5960. The reason he wants it is for Ipod and since I don't use it, I'm debating whether the 1500 would sound better than my 5960. I give up 1 component in but gain an optical. It also...

Looking to upgrade to Paradigm Studio 60s - worth it?

I have a pair of Polk RTi8s for my main towers. I'm satisfied with them but now I have a bit bigger budget and want to purchase a good pair of speakers that look a lot like the slim and tall RTi8s but with better construction and obviously - sound. Unfortunately, I've never heard the...

What is a good 'temporary' HDMI receiver?

So let me get this straight: I take the HDMI cable from my PS3 to the HDMI input of the 1016. I can now apply THX processing, DTS Neo etc, to the sound? I don't believe I can do that. I'm pretty sure I have to take an optical out to the receiver as well - which doesn't carry lossless audio...

What is a good 'temporary' HDMI receiver?

The 1016 doesn't accept audio. It just passes it through to your display.

    SVS Cylinder PCi+ vs CS+?

Now, one is powered, the other is passive. Given two models (say 20-39), are they the same sub excluding the power amp? For example, I wonder why someone would prefer a passive sub over a powered one?

What is a good 'temporary' HDMI receiver?

2 ins, 1 out will do. The receiver must be able to accept audio by HDMI, not just passthrough. I'm looking at about $500max. Like I said, I know I'll be upgrading anyways so I don't want to spend money on something obsolete.

What is a good 'temporary' HDMI receiver?

I'm certain I'm going to spend a good chunk of change on a quality receiver later in 2007 when the advanced audio receivers are out. I got a PS3 and I really need a receiver so I can listen to PCM soundtracks. So basically, I'm looking for info on what would be an inexpensive temorary HDMI...
