    Audio/compatibility confusion :(

I'm not really familiar with SCART interfaces. They are not that prevalent in the US. I'm sure some of the european participants may be of more assistance. Good luck.

    What Is A Mosfet Amp?

MOSFET means metal oxide silicon field effect transistor. MOSFET's are usually used in the output stage of a power amplifier. Most small signal transistors are bi-polar transistors. The bi-polar transistor is also used in the output stage of power amplifiers. If the amp is not described as a...

    Newie needs help

OK! I was having a party. I don't always listen at that level. I was showing of for some of my guests. I'm sure all of us have done so at least once or twice. I think the main reason for the extreme levels she and others were requesting was simply because most had never heard such good sound at...

    AMP+IntegratedAMP

I have been checking also. It was not CinePro. I'm still trying to remember what brand the amp was. At the time I thought it was so unusual I do remember asking the DJ what the line pass throughs were for. Answer "Obviously; daisy chaining amps for multiple speaker pairs. As soon as I found...

    Hybrid Tube Integrated Amp

I use an ARC-SP9 in conjunction with tube power amps driving ES panels and SS for my subs. When I've had enough Chimay I frequently think I'm in heaven. IMHO the earlier in the amplification chain the tubes are the better.

    Audio/compatibility confusion :(

What kind of TV/monitor do you have and what kind if inputs does it have? What kind of graphics card is on your computer? On my ATI card there is a SV output that I plug directly into a JVC JX-S100 (4 input video switcher). The output from the JVC goes to my TV monitor.

    PC to HT

Before your wife thinks you have gone too far, try putting 4 electrostatic speakers, 2 subwoofers, the needed assorted amplifiers, a 32" (I know it's small) TV/Monitor along with all the other needed audio gear. Also tie one of your PC's (Networked) into your AV system.

When will we get more superbits???

The first SuperBit release I bought was Gattaca. At first I thought it was a sales gimmick. After watching the movie I know better. Since then I have actively looked for superbit releases. Gattaca looks simply fabulous. I never look at all those extra scenes interviews or making's of. All I want...

    Newie needs help

Too much audience noise may mean that your rears are too loud. Many people set the rears too loud. Most newbies that I visit always set the rears to loud. I find my self always asking for less volume on the rears.

    Newie needs help

You should be aware that B(l)ose speakers are not very well thought of on this or most audiophile sites. There are many other speakers that sound a lot better and cost a lot less.

    The “Sound” of receivers…

av phile, I am sure you are having fun. You have very eloquently stated what I have always suggested. This is a hobby. You are supposed to be having fun. Those whose answer to everything is DBT are kind of like the little kids who walk up and down the beach and stomp on everyones sandcastle...

    AMP+IntegratedAMP

If I remember correctly, it was CinePro. I will check my sources to make sure. Maybe some of the DJ types who use pro sound stuff can remember seeing pass throughs on those amps.

Dr. Howard Johnson Discusses Skin Effect

As far as conductivity is concerned Rhodium or Silver are better. Silver does tarnish though. The oxidant of silver is not a good conductor. Platinum is very good but rather expensive.

Top 5 things Best Buy doesn't want you to know

The problem is the way the warranty is pushed at you. If saying no thank you once was enough I wouldn't have written. Having a salesman who knows less than you implying you are an idiot because you won't purchase something you neither want nor need is enough to get under your skin. When they...

Top 5 things Best Buy doesn't want you to know

As far as those special warranties go, I tell the salesman I know their reason for pushing them is the bonus they get for selling them. I also add "if you keep pushing that on me I will take my business elsewhere". I have nixed a purchase at the register because of their pushing those...

Top 5 things Best Buy doesn't want you to know

The way that I fight the good fight against BB and others like them is to invite my neighbors and any one who expresses an interest in good sound and video over for a demo. After I get them in the sweet spot they usually buy better stuff that they had in mind. This is a great way to kill the...

    Your favorite 'study' CD's

Study while listening to music? I can't even read while listening to music. The notes just seem to interfere with anything else I try to do. I put on To Grover With Love and Larry Niven got postponed till later.

Dr. Howard Johnson Discusses Skin Effect

Actually gold isn't that good a conductor. What it has going for itself is that it is a "noble" metal. ie: It doesn't corrode.

    yamaha ht340 or onkyo hts670s

Is there any difference in the warranties? If the Onkyo is sold with a warranty as new it might be a good buy.
