I may be a little partial to tubes because my buddie and I have just finished the prototype of our tubular folded path transmission line subwoofer. Loud and deep and quite efficient. It uses a 15" woofer. :cool:

Most subs have left and right speaker level inputs and left and right speaker level outputs. Connect the receiver's output to the sub's inputs (speaker level) and connect your speakers to the outputs (speaker level) of the sub. There are other ways to connect things but they don't apply here. :cool:

I don't think I would be looking for a subwoofer at CompUSA. Most manufacturers are producing a wide range of products. The Hsu Research subs on their site and elsewhere are not all cheap and cheesy. Their tall cylinders are reasonably priced and deep and loud. Their look might have a low SAF...

Most subwoofers have low (line level) and high (speaker level) inputs. With the speaker level inputs there is a pair of outputs for connecting your main speakers. At least one sub manufacturer recommends using the high level inputs. :cool:

You can increase the voltage rating on capacitors by connecting them in parallel This will also increase the total capacitance. Unlike resistors, connecting caps in parallel is additive in terms of value. :cool:

Seperates or integrated it doesn't make a lot of difference as long as you have sufficient power. I prefer seperates but I'm old school having never owned a receiver.:cool:

Have you tried contacting M+K? That would be the first resource I would try. Of course me being the teckie type I would have already dis-assembled the sub and tried cleaning if not replacing that pot. :cool:

There was never any suggestion that SQ or QS was equal to DPLII or DD. I mentioned them because I wanted it known that I've been experimenting with surround sound for a long time. I still prefer 2 channels for music most of the time. It seems that a lot of people do . :cool:

Get the fronts working right first. I've been trying to use surround sound for music since the days of SQ (QS)matrix and the Hafler Quadaptor. I have tried lots of things but have always been kind of underwhelmed. For music I rarely use anything but plain old 2 channel stereo. Now, movies and...

I also believe that a front firing port is better, however a rear firing port allows one to do some tweaking of the bass response by varying the distance from the front wall. :cool:
