Headphones, the Solution for all our audio dreams and wishes?

I dislike headphones so much I gave a pair of Stax Earspeakers to a buddy for late night listening. The feel of music coming from between my ears has always felt kind of creepy to me.

    Magnepan thoughts?

The Dayton series of sub woofers from Part*express is reasonably priced comes in three sizes (10", 12" 15") and are available as kits that even a "caveman" could assemble in an hour or so. The MMG's are my favorite inexpensive speaker. I regularly recommend them to friends and neighbors. Several...

    balancing?

It may be you are asking the wrong question. A balanced cable needs balanced inputs and outputs on the devices connected. This requires 3 conductors. A plus a minus and a shield/ground conductor. Any other cable needs only 2 conductors. A signal conductor and a ground. Unbalanced cables that...

Frank Sinatra Live at the Sands DVD-A

I only have it on RBCD. Even there it is a super sounding recording. I didn't know it was available on DVD-A. I'm placing an order at my local emporium tomorrow.

    Newbie Question!

Since when is Magnepan to much for an HT? I use 4 full range ESL's and 3 subwoofers (no center speaker) for HT.

    What’s Your Favorite Speakers < $3,000?

None of the choices work for me. Magneplanar 1.6QR's would leave some money for a killer Dayton 15" sealed box sub. I would still be somewhere close to the budget. I would take this rig over any of the listed selections.:D

where to get "cheap" audio rack

Here in Philadelphia I found 5/8" all thread rods at one of the local lumber yards. Any place that sells to the construction industry should have 5/8" all thread in stock. The 3ft lengths I bought were $3.50 each. The nuts were the most expensive item at about a dollar each even when buying a...

    Did I do it backwards?

I was using a Pioneer TVX-9500 TV audio tuner in the middle 70's. It was mono (of course) and I fed that mono signal into both channels of my preamp. When I get one of the first VCR's (Beta) sold it was connected up the same way. The way things are now I have 4 full range ESL's and 3 sub woofers...

Cool new toys....how do they work?

I haven't tried those types of R/C choppers. I do have 2 gas powered R/C choppers that I crash regularly. I buy a dozen sets of rotor blades go to the flying field and break all dozen pair. I am getting better as the last pair lasted 5 minutes. I've been flying R/C planes for >20 years and I...

    adcom,rotel,emotiva or outlaw!!!!

I own some Adcom gear. It has worked flawlessly, some of it for more than 15 years. I can't say that about the other manufacturers. If you purchase any Adcom gear and don't like it it is very easy to sell on the used market. If you buy used Adcom you can use it and sell it later for just about...

Anybody hear or see a pair, in person?

72 inches is 6ft not 7. In my system there is no center channel speaker and I don't miss it at all. You could always use WATT Puppy's for the surround speakers. Timbre matching is what's important. The better a speaker is the better it is. As far as the low end goes most HT systems have...

Anybody hear or see a pair, in person?

What speakers are you talking about and what does not being made for HT have to do with anything? A good speaker is a good speaker. Most speakers designed for HT don't sound as good (to my ears) as those designed to just sound good.

    2channel setup help needed

Here's how I would rate them. 1. Cambridge CA540 2. NAD I don't believe that HK is in the same category quality wise. Just try selling an HK amp and see how little you get for it. Cambridge and NAD have some resale value.:D

Anybody hear or see a pair, in person?

What you are saying GreenJelly is refuted quite well by every Apogee, Magnaplanar, ML or any ESL or bipolar or omni directional loudspeaker ever manufactured. Admittedly panels are di-polars (ie: the rear wave is out of phase with the front) but speakers such as Ohm F or any Ohm product that...

    Subwoofer issue

You have a room related problem. The cheapest solution is to position the sub where the peaks and dips are minimized. You will have to experiment with this. Sometimes using 2 smaller subs placed asymmetrically can help with your problem.

    CSI: Vegas/CSI: Miami/CSI: NY fans?

CSI Miami is the sh*t. I love Horatio Caine. He is so 2 dimensional he could only exist on TV. I also like the overdone overly contrasted colors.:D
