Well thank you very much Tom for all your useful information:) sounds like placement of the subwoofer is a big factor and ill be doing a lot of moving of furniture for awhile lol
1)room size and openings to other areas of the home
2)intended subwoofer placement(corner loaded?) and average distance to the key seats.
3)How close to reference level you push action oriented DVDs.

That will get you 95% of the way to knowing "how much" subwoofer you should be considering.

>>>One question/comment I have about this then I guess is the opposite of that - it is definitely possible to have not enough sub for a large room, but in this case I don't think that will be a problem with the subs recommended right? Taking these factors into consideration, how does one know when it is not enough sub to expect "average" output in a large room?<<<

Oh I think any of the subwoofers mentioned have the potential to not be "enough". It all circles back to the "big three"---

1)room size and openings to other areas of the home
2)intended subwoofer placement(corner loaded?) and average distance to the key seats.
3)How close to reference level you push action oriented DVDs.

Until you know all three its a bit of detective work. Many times it isn't what will meet or exceed the performance expectations---it is what will get you the closest at a given price point. If the OP had all the subs in his room and was able to A/B compare them I'm confident he would notice not-so-subtle audible performance differences. Some dealing with distortion(harmonic and otherwise) and FR differences. Others perhaps more related to ringing and group delay.

Hey Jeffrey, I trust the dual XS30s are working out okay?

Actually, even in his larger room I think a single XV15 will work out really well. If we assume corner loading and a listening position within say 4-6 meters...so are looking at true extension <20hz and clean output capabilities (at the seats) of 112-118dB. And in the "meat" part of the frequency spectrum (where 99% of all music and video game bass is)...he can expect an easy 115-121dB of headroom.

The counter intuitive aspect to all this is that the above performance estimates would hold relatively steady whether the room was 4000, 6000, 8000,10000 cu-ft. The primary variables are the sub location and distance to seating. The room size is almost secondary.

Hello Tom, you trust correct my friend, the XS30's are putting out some deep heavy clean sound, rocking the rafters, I finally got them located correctly and dialed in, my oh my what a difference a day makes. They have been begging me to relocate them so they could really shine and sometimes it is scary, especially the subterranean rumble (growl) so to speak. I can attest to the OP that that single XV15 may surprise you in that cave of yours, I had two in my space for awhile and used just one in a 3000 cf area and was amazed at the clean room filling output just as Tom says, I really miss those XV15s but the XS30s really help me to forget. I'm still dying to try dual XV30s in my place:D, that will really make the missus happy. Hey I just got her some new powered desktop monitors that she is crazy about, she is coming over to the dark side, I knew she would, persistence prevails. Take care my friend, talk again. I need to ask you Tom about two pegs, I forgot, I will send you a shout.
Cheers Jeffrey

Well worth the wait, and congrats, word of caution, the XV15's character is addicting, not healthy for the pocket book.

Thanks ahlblaza! I very excited... My wife was so mad! Lol she didn't know until last minute that I had ordered. I think she will be happy though when she hears it because we both listen to music all the time. And addicting is not good lol since I'm all ready and addict to nice sound and bass :D

You're welcome my friend, the missus is going to love the sound and will have her jumping out of the seats every now and then, so hold on and enjoy. She will definitely come around when the second FedEx truck arrives with a XV15 brother;)

Lol you say it as though I will have another for sure in the future... And the funny thing is I don't doubt that a bit. Just going to have to fatten the wallet a little more, it flattened it a little:D

Was this delay due to insuffecient stock of the drivers or cabs or both? I think in conversation with Tom he mentioned he was backed up with orders and had driver delays.
Cheers Jeff
