I'm at my other place right now, so I actually don't have the XPA-3 to hook them up to. I swapped out the PM7200 for the 8300 here since I got the UMC-200. I will be taking them back to try them out on the XPA-3 though, but they seem to be easy to drive and are able to fill my large, open floor plan space fine.
I went to listen to them at BB before I bought them, and even in their crappy setup on a middle shelf in the middle of the store, I could immediately hear they had a huge soundstage. After some time with them I can say they maintain themselves even at very elevated levels and have good SPL for such a small speaker. FAR more bass than I would expect from a 4" driver, and very clean midrange.
They honestly compare quite well to my pair of unmodified A/V-2s. They give up a bit of detail in the midrange (which my A/V-1s also do compared to the 2s), but not really width or depth. Mids are very clean and natural sounding. The tweeters seem a tiny bit dialed back compared to my A/V-2s, but don't lack any detail. Vocals, piano, strings and percussion instruments sound the way they should and come across cleanly.
It has already been said many times but I can't see how these things can really be this good at this price. I bought them thinking I could return them if they didn't live up to their reputation, but based on what I heard here already I sort of knew that probably wasn't going to be the case...and it isn't. I'm definitely keeping them.
