MA state of emergency

Connecticut already started evacuating low lieing coastal areas. Im hoping its not too bad, but you never know when to take these things seriously, the news seems to just be trying to sell out supermarkets and hotels. Although last year we had an October storm that knocked out power for 3 weeks in some areas...

Just fill the tubs with water, {so you can use a bucket to flush the toilets} make sure the propane tanks are full for the genny and keep some canned foods and bottled water at the ready...

I grew up in New Orleans so I know something about hurricanes. I used to live in Boston as well. My thoughts will be with you guys and the other people in the region.

My g/f thinks it might affect work for Monday. I told her that I knew more about hurricanes than the gov and he was the least of the factors affecting me making money tomorrow.
Yeah, man - but being in construction, it seems like a hurricane is good for business. :p

Best of luck to everyone out there. I know it can be stressful when something like that happens. I should call my brother and see how he and the family are doing.

If you ever run low, I'll personally drive supplies out to you from Arizona. All I ask for in exchange is a small piece of metal and some old rocks. I'm sure that your wife wouldn't mind. :D

I've now done all the prep I'm gonna do for this storm, brought in 6 chairs from the deck, turned the table upside down on the deck, and moved the grill & the smoker into the garage. Oh yeah, I closed all the windows :D.

I did some grocery shopping yesterday. One of the local stores was mobbed (probably panic buying of bread, milk, toilet paper & batteries), but the Whole Paycheck had a normal Saturday crowd. Most people who shop there look like they never eat much anyway, so I guess they don't expect to run out during a hurricane .

The latest projection has the storm coming ashore in southern NJ, somewhere between Cape May & Atlantic City. I like playing with this hurricane tracker.

So far its cloudy here with some mild breezes. No rain or wind. The only thing that worries me at all is this storm is moving very slow. Who ever does end up getting the full effect of Sandy will get it for a good 12 hours.

Oh yeah, the other thing that worries me is that our local electric power company, PEPCO, has a terrible track record restoring power outages. So I may see only milder edges of the storm, but may have no power for days .

This time I'm ready for that. After last July, I bought a hand-cranked coffee grinder so, with a gas stove, I can still make fresh-roasted morning coffee without electricity. I roasted a bunch of beans yesterday that should last me a week.

I don't know, she is pretty serious about holding onto that stuff. Friends of ours recently got divorced and they added the jewelry the wife had to the marital assets, and when we were talking about it my wife said "I would never give up half of my jewelry" and I thought to my self you won't be able to find it... Lol I didn't say it just thought it.... I don't see divorce in our future lol as long as she never reads this post...

We came home from the Florida AH event early. Ended up leaving around 5PM Friday.:(
We didn't think we'd get a flight if we waited too long. As it was our early flight was packed.
We've got (NJ) coastal evacuations starting at 4PM today, and a state of emergency to follow.
The power company said to expect power outages of at least one week:eek:

What I wouldn't give for a Type B personality. I'd be richer, smarter, and live longer. :)

I'm in the same boat with you unfortunately. Suffice it to say, I'm prepped for a week+ of no electricity.

In other news, my wife just got notice from her school system (Fairfax, VA) that there's no school for Monday or Tuesday.

Did they hire PEPCO as a consultant? No amateur power company can make power outages last that long, you have to bring in a pro.
While my memory isn't perfect (sad at my age), I think I've lost power for over 2 days at least three times since I moved to MD from VA two years ago.

I just got back from the beachfront and we are already flooding into the streets of cape may and wildwood, six more mean high tides to deal with as well, all I can say is it will be quite ugly around here come Wed morning. I am dealing with it as best that I can but I will be staying home.

I was at the Spring Lake, NJ boardwalk today. (half of it was destroyed in the storm last Aug)
The waves were already around 8-ft over the jetties.

Well my friends and fellow members, I know there are quite a few of us feeling this storm but I must say I am a little too close for comfort, I did have a bad feeling about this but like all the storms before going back 40 plus years we have never left. I think I should have left this time. I know a picture tells the story but I just dont feel good about going outside right now. The back bays are actually meeting up with the ocean fronts for the first time in recent history, flooding everywhere and this bit-ch didn't even hit yet.I can't leave now if I wanted too as the highways out have become an impasse at this time, The local officials warned that the window was closing to get out and it seems to have closed as of this time, winds are picking up and rain is blasting sideways as if there were hundreds of pressure washers cleaning my house. I have all the supplies I need both medical and otherwise but they offer no help if the winds tear apart roof systems and such, I will update as time and energy allow Take care of your families and be safe.sawz
