I've now done all the prep I'm gonna do for this storm, brought in 6 chairs from the deck, turned the table upside down on the deck, and moved the grill & the smoker into the garage. Oh yeah, I closed all the windows
.
I did some grocery shopping yesterday. One of the local stores was mobbed (probably panic buying of bread, milk, toilet paper & batteries), but the Whole Paycheck had a normal Saturday crowd. Most people who shop there look like they never eat much anyway, so I guess they don't expect to run out during a hurricane
.
The latest projection has the storm coming ashore in southern NJ, somewhere between Cape May & Atlantic City. I like playing with
this hurricane tracker.
So far its cloudy here with some mild breezes. No rain or wind. The only thing that worries me at all is this storm is moving very slow. Who ever does end up getting the full effect of Sandy will get it for a good 12 hours.
Oh yeah, the other thing that worries me is that our local electric power company, PEPCO, has a terrible track record restoring power outages. So I may see only milder edges of the storm, but may have no power for days
.
This time I'm ready for that. After last July, I bought a hand-cranked coffee grinder so, with a gas stove, I can still make fresh-roasted morning coffee without electricity. I roasted a bunch of beans yesterday that should last me a week.
