My ten favorite commercially available subs because I'm a biased man.

Elemental Designs A-3 300. Another value sub offering at 600 they offer deep notes without breaking the bank.
You might wanna read the last few pages of the ED subwoofer thread on AVS...wouldn't really say that sub is available if ED can't deliver on anything. Really unfortunate because their products always appealed to me :(

Replace it on your list with a JTR Orbit Shifter or Captivator / Cap S/ Cap S2 :D

Yeah I've heard some about some of those issues. JTRs are fantastic just remember they are passive which means you will need a good power amp to driver them.

As far as I know, the only JTR sub available with a passive option is the Captivator. All others are sold as powered versions. I believe the amps are sourced from SpeakerPower, just like Seaton's offerings.

That would appear to be the case a screw must be loose today.;) . I'd love to do a JTR based theater. Could you imagine how amazing one of these blockbuster movies would be in a theater like that.

Yeah, I'd love to check out (and own) a Danley, Seaton, and/or JTR theater one of these days :D

My ten favorite commercially available subs because I'm a biased man.

In no particular order:

JL Audio Fathom f113 it's small and sleak with incredible SPL in the upper ranges. It's also not ugly. I would probably own one if I didn't build my own sub. (I prefer the shorter one's looks)

Funky Waves 18.3 I love PR-s and I love TC sounds. They do a fantastic finishing job and you get the best bass possible

SVS Ultra Cylinder. I love the idea of having a couple tubes in my theater. It's innovative and effective.

Seaton Submersive. I love subs that look good. Sound good and deliver. This one certainly does.

HSU STF-2. It's a fantastic value at 349 that won't break a budget. They make other great subs, but they also offer one of the gems below 500.

Elemental Designs A-3 300. Another value sub offering at 600 they offer deep notes without breaking the bank.

Danley TH-Spud. Need a new step for your theater. This sub will amaze you while pulling less energy than your traditional subs. A tapped horn build is an innovative approach that uses a small driver for big sound.

Epik Empire. Another great sealed sub under 1k.

CraigSUB SS-18.1. Thought he's not a popular figure in many circles his strong opinions do lead to very solid subs and the passive option might be preferred by some. He offers a unique option.

Velodyne Optimum In-Wall. For those who only want in wall options Velodyne actually offer a decent(expensive) approach.

There are many great subs for many situations that's why it's always good to ask for help, but there are numerous options with great companies, great products and great engineers pushing the envelope. The idea that 2 or 3 companies are the only ones offering great subs points to a lack of research.
Isiberian- Have you heard the SVS cylinder? I have looked at that but have not read any good info on it. I also like the looks, and it has good WAF.

If you ask SVS, they will say there isn't much difference between the cylinders and the boxes performance wise.

If there is a difference, it likely favors the cylinder. There is a reason pressure vessels are cylindrical.

I've had a PC13-Ultra for five years now. I love it. I couldn't stop grinning the first night that I got it and hooked it up.

My recollection from years ago is that the PB13-Ultra had a slight edge in terms of performance, but I chose the cylinder for a few reasons: smaller footprint, lower weight, very similar performance, and...I liked the look. :) Now, it is very tall compared to the boxes, so what you gain in lower footprint, you give up in height.

It's that time again. I did it with speakers and now let's take a look at some subwoofers. The subwoofer has to perform equally well for movies and music and be able to cover an area of at least 2000 cubic feet.

1.) SVS PB13-Ultra (Is there a better sub on the planet?)
2.) HSU VTH-15H
3.) Rythmik FV15HP
4.) SVS PB12-Plus
5.) HSU VTF-3 MK 4
6.) SVS PB12-NSD
7.) HSU VTF-2 MK 4
8.) Rythmik F15HP
9.) Epik Empire
10.) Epik Legend

Am I right? Hmmm?

Not sure if these were mentionedbut you are missing paradigm sub 25, paradigm sub2, JL audio gotham, Velodyne Digital Drive 1812 Signature Edition these should be in th elist as well seaton submerisive both versions should be at the top of the list, unless price point was an issue.

I think all the ~ $2K+ flagship models from Funk, SVS, Rythmik, HSU, Velodyne, Seaton, JTR, Epik, RBH, Paradigm, KEF, JL, etc, all qualify. :D
