One Crown XLS 2500 bridged = 2400watts into 4ohms = $512 x 2 =$1024 delivered. They are also silent.

Amazon.com: Crown XLS2500 Pro XLS Series Powered Amplifier Power Amp: Camera & Photo

Also, do you have 2 dedicated 20amp circuits in your room or just a single 20a circuit?

How much is the Funk 2400wpc x 2ch sub amp?
Yeah, saw those, in CDA the best I found was $678 + 13% tax, and they do not have any DSP. My goal is to have something that is no higher than 5", silent, ideally with DSP embedded so I can get rid of the DCX and MiniDSP and make more room on my rack which I have space issues right now causing more heat than I'd like. It's not much more than the CDN price above for 2 XLS's alone.

I've got 1 dedicated 20 amp circuit right now and planning on running a second at some point (the unit will come with 2 power cords).

I think it's great having an outboard sub amp, instead of something internal or attached to the big subs.

I'm sure the Funk amp is great.

Agreed. I don't know if I'll ever go back to non-DIY or powered subs at the end of the day, so having a quiet powerful Class D damp with significant EQ ability is what I want at the moment.

But I seem to change my mind every 2 years or so, so who knows what I'll want next on the subwoofer front. This is a costly habbit isn't it! :)

Plus I'm supporting a Canadian company, which is great as well, being from Canada!

well crown does make units with built in DSP, obviously more expensive though. Last I priced them, they're about $100-200 more than XLS drivecore with similar power. XTi series FWIW

Looked at those as well, but admittedly that amp review over at AVS of the XTi 1000 series and the huge power drops by 20hz scared me off. Not sure if there ever was a response to that (haven't looked in ages), or if the method of testing would mimic real world use in any event. Plus, I guess Nathan's amps haven't undergone that testing either (at least not publicly), so who knows.

There is also the iNukes, but I've heard they sound like freight trains when they are turned on, and the colourful lights and look of the encloser itself doesn't scream "put me in your family room", at least not to my wife.

I've always preferred non-powered subs and use outboard amps. My first sub over 15 years ago was a non-powered NHT sub. When I bought the Rythmik sub, I also wanted a non-powered sub, but they don't have the ability w/ the Servo-direct. It's a great sub, but I would not buy them if I could do it over again.

My dual RBH subs and four Velodyne subs are all non-powered. And of course, my new dual Funk 18.0 TSAD are also non-powered - Nathan says should ship in a week.

No way I'm buying internally-powered subs again.

So very cool that Funk offers both options......the outboard Funk sub amp is also a good option.

Looking forward to seeing your TSAD 18.0's bud. They look like killer drivers, and the quality of his enclosures are just unreal.

Nathan helped me out a lot when I was looking to potentially go DIY a few years back. I opted to DIY vs buying from FunkAudio mainly for the challenge and learning curve that went with it. But my enclosures are no where near Funk quality unfortunately as they were the first boxes I've ever built!

True. I was going to get the Crown XTi w/ DSP (same price as my XLS2500) ........but I didn't care for DSP. I guess most guys prefer DSP.

I'm anti-DSP.

If they made a non-DSP, non-EQ, non-RC version of the Denon AVP-A1HDCI, I would have gotten that. :D

I know I'm crazy. I'm probably autistic and don't even know it.

But just personal preference. :D

I'm not saying that they're the best option, personally I'd go with Nathan's offerings, I just wanted to point out the DSP crown in case you hadn't seen it. However apparently you have :D

I can't even cut a piece of wood straight.

Maybe one day you'll buy some massive Funk 18 subs. :D

Yeah, I'm think the Funk amps are probably better too.

But I think the Crowns are good enough for me.

Does the Funk amp have a 12v trigger?

The Crowns don't have the 12v. I have to use one of those Smart Automatic power surge, but it requires completely shutting off the Denon (standby mode won't shut off the amp).

If you have one like this, it might have an adjustment on it to set the trigger level. If it doesn't, you could get one of those from Amazon for ~$40. :)

No, was hoping Nathan would incorporate this feature, but he ended up opting not to. Apparently the amp will have an auto-on sensor though, so when it detects a signal it will turn on similar to most subwoofer plate amps.

The auto on feature is quite different than conventional auto on/off function. Rather than being its own circuit that can be finiky, noisy and irritating never working quite the way you want it to, it is part of the DSP programming. You can select how long without a signal before it goes into standby. It comes back on when a signal is applied so fast you never even notice it was off. They draw very little power at idle as it is ~18watts, and only ~3watts when in standby.

I don't think the Smart-Strip I just got from Amazon has any Trigger adjustments. But it will do.

Auto-on sensor would work great.

The Crowns don't have 12v or Auto-on sensors. Kind if sucks. Cost me another $25 for a Smart-Strip from Amazon.
