Rythmik D15SE + Linkwitz Orion

My Rythmik D15SE box can go into the attic.

Because this subwoofer is a keeper.:D

I can't come up with anything different to say than what has already been said of their subwoofers - deep, clean, tight, articulate, accurate, powerful bass.

Okay, so here is the setup: Denon AVP-A1, Linkwitz Orion, Rythmik D15SE

Denon: Speakers set to Small, Crossover Set to FIXED-THX, Subwoofer set to 2SP MIX (SW1 goes to Left Input of D15SE, SW2 goes to Right Input), Sub Mode LFE-THX, THX Audio Setup --> THX Ultra2 Subwoofer On, BGC Off, Stereo Mode (since Direct modes will not allow 2.1), Left & Right speakers @ 75dBC & Sub @ 78dBC.

Rythmik: Limiter Off, Crossover to 120Hz (to bypass), Volume 50% max, Rumble Filter On, Bass Extension 28Hz, Damping High; subwoofer placement is behind the VTI audio rack behind the Denon AVR-5308. Yeah, yeah, I crawled around the room on the floor like a dog while no one was watching and listened for that subwoofer sweet spot.:D

I think the Linkwitz Orion has super crystal clear and accurate midrange and treble, and the imaging and soundstage is second to none. The bass is excellent, meaning it is tight and accurate (Q= 0.5), and it will shake the walls.

But the one thing the Orion cannot do is shake your bones, rattle your teeth , and produce earthquake level bass with a Q of 0.5.

This is where the D15SE comes in.:D

Every song I listened to was just amazing - even songs with mainly vocals and acoustic guitars sounded so awesome. Where did those bass come from?

In conclusion, I will now only listen to the Orions in 2.1.:D

What made you decide to get a D15SE out of the Rythmik lineup (vs. a different Rythmik model)?

Primary factor was aesthetics - the high-gloss piano black finish is beautiful. Although in hindsight it would not have mattered since it is now placed behind my audio rack.:D

Secondary factor was the sealed sub vs ported. I probably couldn't tell the difference, but some people believe that sealed enclosure gives it a very slight advantage for music. Who knows?:D

Very cool ADTG!:D

Some pics please!

Also can you explain your setup now? Are you using the 5808 for theater duties and the AVP-1 for two channel? What are all the amps doing if you are using the 6012 for the linkwitz?

Thanks.:)

Yeah, I'll definitely take some pictures.

InTheIndustry is helping me get some KEF Reference speakers.

Thus, I was going to wait for those and take pictures at the same time.

We haven't decided exactly which speakers to get yet, but we are close.:D

My goal is to use the Denon 5308 with the Linkwitz Orion + Rythmik subwoofer for 2.1 music.

The AT3005 will be used with the AVP-A1 to power the KEF Reference speakers + Rythmik D15SE for 5.1. I'm using two 1Male-2Female-Y-Adapters so that I can connect both the AVR-5308 and AVP-A1 to the Rythmik sub (of course, only one pre-pro will be on at a time). I'm using SW1 & SW2 on both the 5308 & AVP-A1 to connect to the D15SE L/R Inputs via Y-adapters.

My plan is so also use the AT3002 to power a pair of Salon2, which I also plan to get for 2.0 music.:D

If I don't get the Salon2 for some reasons, then the AT3002 will be for backup.

Damn, I'm out of my mind.

you should know that three subs is better than one :D

P.S. I know you're already getting the KEFs but I wish you would audition the Pioneer S2-EX :D

I'm sure 4 subs will be even better.

But a wiseman once said, "A man's gotta know his limitations"...and then, "Do you feel lucky?".:D

Pioneer S2-EX CST driver speakers, huh?

They are over my budget for bookshelf speakers @ $3,500 each!

I dunno about that... I think there's three major modes in each room. so I think three is all you need to get clean flat frequency response across the room, extremely tight with no sweet spots or dead spots, plus you can get deeper movie bass with the increased displacement down low. I'm nearly on the verge of adding a second maelstrom =_=;l

Huh... weren't the KEFs even pricier?

But will four subs adversely affect the sound?

No, silly, the KEFs are only $3,000 each. Big difference!:D

Besides, I would like to have at least one thing made in England.:D

Four will not adversely affect performance as far as I know. But it becomes a waste of money unless your goal is to compete with warpdrv on displacement

the guy who designed the Pioneers is English and used to work for KEF.

Plus, according to TLS guy

As for at least one thing made in England, you should get some Lowther fullranges and make cardioid surrounds with them :D

I will never even try to compete with warpdrv on subwoofers.:D
Or anyone else for that matter.:D

Well, everyone has a different opinion and preference. TLS Guy also likes the B&W 800D a great deal, and I thought they sounded extremely mediocre compared to the Linkwitz Orion, Revel Salon2, KEF 201/2, RBH T2, and Def Tech BP7000SC.

We can't help what I like and don't like better.:D

Yep Rythmik subs are awesome. I find it hard to believe that for $1000 it can be beat in the sound quality department. Sure there is more output to be had, but it still has plenty for this guy...I just want to add a second to smooth out my room. I know I sound like a fan boy and if I heard all the other $1000 ID subs I may think differently, but I have never once had any buyers remorse. Actually quite the opposite, it's probably the best purchase I've ever made. :)

If I could spend a little more I would like a sub with an LMS driver or a SubmersiveHP...but in this price category I would go Rythmik every time and never think twice about it. Plus Brian is a really nice guy, which is important me. I don't like supporting jerkovs.

I just looked it up on their website.
It looks really sweet. I am impressed with the looks.
And it is sealed - that's the kind of woofer I like.
Plus - the 15 inch driver can't hurt.
Congrats.

ADTG, I'm surprised with all that gear you got in there that you don't have a couple of killer subs along side of them.

What's the deal with that!?!?! :D

Congrats! It's an awesome sub. I might be a bit biased becuase I put my own sweat and blood into mine (DIY ;) ) but I haven't heard any sub that I would rather have. I would love to build a second but I have other priorities at the moment. :(

BTW, What's up with the dual recievers?
