I first head Denon's Dynamic EQ down at Greg's and kind of thought hmmm. I liked the way it sounded at low volume compared to it being off and the bass totally dropping off but it just seemed wrong to be jockeying around with the gain on the sub like that.
FF to Rick's and as soon as he really cranked track 1 from BIA I could tell that the sub was cranked way too loud. He was the first to mention it and turned it down. However at normal volume it seemed fine.
After reading one of Dave's posts about our hearing not being linear and then reading a post by our resident speaker expert Paul Appolinionionioni-oh
about the difference between loudness and SPL and why we use SPL ... I didn't take the few seconds to learn anything - I just learned that there was something to know ... I now think I have come to an understanding about our hearing threshold for LF. There is no set calibration that allows for the varied listening levels. Fortunately this rec'r is easy to adjust on the fly. In our living room the ancient Onkyo relic allows for it as well but I'd have to RTFM to figure out how. Still ... I feel like I have figured out something of importance. Sean Olive's 'How to Listen' software has been instrumental in all this too. I now have a little confidence in myself as a listener.
